Curriculum Night 2017 Mrs.

Kramer

7th Grade Math/8th grade math

Welcome and thank you for attending Centennial Middle School’s 2017 curriculum night. It is my pleasure to
have you in our classroom and for you to hear about some important highlights I will be covering.

 Curriculum: We currently use Big Ideas Math. This curriculum is aligned to the new Washington State
Learning Standards. These standards can be found at www.k12.wa.us. Students will have access to their
textbooks online, as well as have access to video lesson tutorials when they need extra help at home,
practice problems, practice tests with instant feedback, and math games, all 24/7 on the internet at:
www.bigideasmath.com.
 Communication: Daily work and/or assessments are updated weekly on Family Access. Please make
sure you have your log-in information to check on your student’s progress. The best way to reach me is
through email. If you do not have email access, you can also call me and leave a message if I’m not
available. I love keeping in touch with the students and their families so please contact me as often as
you would like.

 Grading: Summative assessments (quizzes and tests): 70%

Formative assessments (daily work, class work): 30%

 How to help your student at home: First place to look for help would be their notes. We take notes on
new concepts and do practice problems in class. In addition, the online text book is a great resource as
it goes over examples that are aligned to the examples in the book. Other websites are available to
browse and search the subject we’re studying. Here are a couple of examples:
o www.math.about.com
o www.homeworkspot.com
o www.math.com
o Khanacademy.org

Thank you for your time and support. I appreciate you making the effort to be here tonight.
