We are seeking “shareholders” who are willing to make
an investment in the lives of our youth here at MUMC. Our
youth have two mission trips scheduled for this Summer.
Middle School youth are going to Heifer International
in Perryville, Arkansas. High School Youth are going to
Parsons, Kansas where they will partner with Group
Missions. You can buy a “share” for $25, with the proceeds
being used to help underwrite the expenses of those
youth mission trips. This is a great investment that will
pay huge dividends. Help us reach our goal of 100 shares
in support of these fine young people. Later this Summer,
the youth will invite you to a reception and will share
stories of how their mission trips impacted their lives and
shaped their Christian discipleship. Please designate your
donation “Summer Youth Mission Trips.”
Staff Transitions Announced
The Pastor Parish Relations Committee would like to share
the following information with the Missouri UMC family
regarding upcoming pastoral staff transitions:
• Joan DeBoe has accepted an appointment to become
the new pastor of Eldon United Methodist Church,
effective July 1, 2018. We are currently interviewing
candidates to follow Joan in her position as our Full
Charge Bookkeeper for MUMC.
• Kim Parker will be moving to another appointment,
effective July 1, 2018.
• We are pleased to announce that Madi Denton, will
be our new full-time Director of College-Age Ministry.
Madi, who will graduate in May from the University
of Missouri, was deeply involved in youth and college
age ministries at her home church, Liberty United
Methodist, in suburban Kansas City. She served as
a Crossroads Intern twice – once with Liberty UMC
and their C2 College Ministry and once as an intern
with Ignite, our MUMC College Ministry. She directed
the Student Mobilization Program at Mizzou and has
served for the past 2 years in a part-time capacity
with the Mozambique Initiative at our Missouri Annual
Conference Office here in Columbia. We welcome
Madi on board and are excited about the focus and
leadership she will bring.

Kim and Joan and give you an opportunity to drop by

prayers and best wishes as they transition into their
new ministry settings.

MUMC’s Lead Team met on Monday, April 23.
Kate Stull provided another update on the planned
renovation of the children’s ministry facilities.
Construction will begin at the end of the preschool year,
and an open house and ribbon-cutting will celebrate the
renovation sometime in July!
Approximately 225 members attended last week’s town
hall meetings, and the Lead Team is grateful for the
input! Following analysis of the data collected through the
meetings, the Lead Team approved moving forward with
the proposed change to a four-service schedule beginning
late fall. You’ll be hearing lots more about this in the near
future!
MUMC currently has an opening for a worship leader,
who will be an integral part of the contemporary
worship service. This is a part time position which will
be responsible for recruiting and training praise band
members as well as leading the direction of the worship
service through the choice of appropriate and effective
music. Applications are currently being accepted!
Trustees Chair Don Gruenewald shared that the Trustees
will be installing new carpet in the second-floor offices in
May. The current carpet is several decades old and in need
of replacement, and we thank the Trustees for seeing this.
Finance Chair Logan Dale reported that through March,
the operating budget is running a surplus! Expenses are
slightly ahead of budget, but revenues are ahead of
budget by more. Let’s keep the momentum going!
Pastor Fred shared with the Lead Team his excitement
about the current energy at MUMC, his pleasure at the
great turnout for the town hall meetings, as well as the
thoughtful and heartfelt comments made by our church
family at those meetings, and his thankfulness for the
commitment it takes to listen to God’s call as we move
forward. Fred stressed that it is GOD’S mission we seek to
fulfill – not our own – and that, if we keep that in mind as
we look to the future, we will serve in the right way.

With any skill or ability, there is always something to learn, something to improve.
The same is true of our spiritual lives. Perfection comes within the process – it is a
journey and not a destination.
REFLECTION: Reflect on a skill or ability that you enjoy or strive to master. Do you
foresee a time in which you will have mastered all there is too know, or do you
recognize a constant path toward improvement?
TUESDAY: Philippians 3:12-16 Perfection Through Christ
In this passage, Paul shares his understanding that the pathway toward perfection –
that complete unity of spirit with God – comes through walking with and emulating
Christ.
CONSIDER: Consider Jesus as the pathway toward perfection. Consider that Christ
offers constant guidance and continual forgiveness and second chances.
WEDNESDAY: Philippians 3:12-16 Looking Forward, Not Behind
Our human nature pulls the emphasis of our thoughts to our short-comings. We
tend to focus on our failures and look behind us rather than ahead of us.
QUESTION: When you make a mistake, do you immediately return to past
difficulties or do you look forward and use the errors as learning opportunities?
How would your success improve if you kept your focus forward?

already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which
Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved
it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what
lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize
for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on
some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the
progress we have already made.
