Perhaps
the most popular form of motor racing worldwide involves single-seater cars. Sometimes known as
"formula" racing, the single-seaters usually feature a cockpit for the driver in the center of the car as
well as "wings" or ''airfoils" to help direct the flow of air over the car and increase control. This design of
car is most commonly seen in Formula One racing but is used many other different formula series
including GP2 and Formula Three.

downforce. Formula One cars race at speeds of up to 360 km/h (220 mph) with engines limited in
performance to a maximum of 18,000 revolutions per minute (RPM)

Formula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1 and referred to officially as the FIA Formula One World
Championship,[2] is the highest class of single seater auto racing sanctioned by the Fédération
Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The "formula" designation in the name refers to a set of rules with
which all participants' cars must comply.[3] The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grands
Prix (literally translated into English as "Big Prizes"[4]), held on purpose-built circuits and public roads.

Formula One cars are considered to be the fastest circuit-racing cars in the world, owing to very high
cornering speeds achieved through the generation of large amounts of aerodynamic downforce.

The first world championship race was held at Silverstone, United Kingdom during 1950.

The sport's name, Formula One, indicates it is intended to be the most advanced and most competitive
of the FIA's racing formulae.

Fangio, however, is remembered for dominating Formula One's first decade and has long been
considered the "grand master" of Formula One.
