Language Points

Saying the Time

In Turkish, you can say the time by adding the word saat before the hour. It's also much more common to see 24
hour time (military time) used in Turkey than in some English-speaking countries, though in spoken Turkish, you'll
usually hear 12 hour time used.

Saat yedi.
7:00

Saat iki.
2:00

Saat yirmi bir.

21:00 (9:00pm)

At What Time?

Turkish uses a suffix to convey at what time something will happen. Add -de (or according to harmony rules, -da, -
de, or -te) to the time to say at what time.
 Saat yedide.
At 7:00.

Saat altıda geliyorum.

I am coming at 6:00.

Saat beşte gidiyorum.

I am going at 5:00.

Buçuk

Buçuk literally means half and is used for 30 minutes past the hour. Telling time that isn't on the hour or thirty
minutes past the hour is a bit more complicated - we'll save that for a future lesson.

Saat bir buçuk.

Saat sekiz buçuk.

8:30

Saat iki buçukta.

At 2:30.
