Deviance

In the world we are living today, deviance is very evident everywhere. Be it in the simple

things like going to school and some of our daily activities or from the larger things like crimes

and some advocacies are common examples. Deviance as per simple definition is the violation of

social norms. Some may agree with what you are doing but some may not. It is not in the act in

itself that makes the act deviant but in the reaction of the people around us. With that, we are

tasked to do a deviance in the public but, of course, not to the extent of crimes and we have to

take a documentary of how the people reacted on such deviant act that we have committed.

In doing such act of deviance at first, I was really ashamed of what I will be doing. It

takes guts and glory to do such deviant act in the public. In doing so, we have first formulated on

what to do and the angling of the camera to record the whole scenario and as well as the

reactions of the people around us. I, prior to the act, observed the people around me for me to

have a hunch on how the people would react and the like. Further, when I am now tasked to do

the act was really ashamed but one needs courage to continue and to tell to oneself that this is

now or never. In doing the act, you will really feel the shame but as time goes on, the shame will

fade away. The feeling would change like what you’re doing is normal and you won’t be really

that conscious anymore as to what the people may see or say about you. That moment made me

realize that it is not me that actually make me feel that way but the stigma of the other people

judging me. In that sense I realized that deviance itself is not deviant at all but the fact of how

other people would react to the act that is unconventional. After such act, still the shame was

revived and most likely to run away from the place where I did such act. All in all, the task given

to us was an experience that is quite wonderful and worth remembering.

Doing extraordinary thing in the ordinary time is what makes life more exciting. These

acts are what make moments more memorable in our life because of the things that have

transpired. Just like in the deviance act we just did. In this activity, I can say that there are a lot

of things can deviant could do in our society and that is why some of the things and advocacies

we have right now are possible with the help of deviance. Lastly, change is constant and it is up

to us to cope up with the changes around us and for us to have a community that is suitable to us.
