Introduction
The Digital Vision Network is a suite of digital recording
hardware and software products designed to enhance
the capabilities of the P2000 security management
system.
The DVN 5000 Rackmount Series comprises three
different models: DVN 5000 Real-Time, DVN 5000X
Real-Time (for network cameras), and DVN 5000
Multiplexed. These models offer various levels of video
and audio recording and transmission for both large
and small installations. Figure 1: DVN 5000 Rackmount
All DVN 5000 Series machines can simultaneously
record, play, view, transmit, and archive video and
audio. They also contain full Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) • True Client/Server Architecture – Full remote
control, pre-alarm and pre-motion recording, and control via TCP/IP. Supports up to 32 simultaneous
camera darkening detection. users.
These systems, based on true client/server • Flexible User Management – Control access to
architecture, offer exceptional levels of video and audio cameras, functions, and bandwidth per user.
recording, transmission performance for up to 32 • Motion Detection – Dynamic leading-edge motion
cameras, and are capable of processing up to 960/800 detection, configurable for each input
(NTSC/PAL) frames per second (FPS).
• Web Access – Integrated web video/audio server
Features and Benefits for connections via Microsoft® Internet Explorer
• Compatible with Both Analog and IP/Network • Single Sign-On Authentication – Users can log

video for a complete record. • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
• True Pentaplex® Functionality – Real-time Server Functionality – SNMP clients can request
recording, playing, viewing, archiving, and status data from the DVN server, which can
transmission, regardless of image content or generate notifications when the value of an
system activity important status variable changes.
• PTZ Control – Fully integrated multi-vendor PTZ • Permanency Detection – Capable of highlighting
control with minimum latency items that are missing or left behind, such as a
person’s baggage.
1. Supported only on DVN 5000 Rackmount models that support 32 channels. Up to 480/400 FPS supported on 16-channel
models.
1. For example, if 8 analog inputs are used on the DVN5008, only an additional 8 are available for network inputs.
2. For example, if 16 analog inputs are used on the DVN5016, there are no network inputs available.
3. For example, if 16 analog inputs are used on the DVN5032, there are 16 network inputs available.
4. NTSC/PAL
5. Depends on IP camera or encoder.
6. You must provide power to a DVN 5000 via a listed Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for temporary, backup power in the
event of a power failure.

1. Audio input is supported for analog cameras connected to DVN 100-NET and DVN 5000 servers (direct audio input from
AXIS, Panasonic, and Sony network cameras is currently not supported). The analog audio device must be wired to a
DVN 100-NET or DVN 5000 and configured as a network audio device in RemoteControl.
2. This feature is not currently supported with AXIS, Panasonic, and Sony network cameras. Audio output can be used as a
talk-back channel from SiteManager, RemoteControl, VisionWeb.
3. NTSC/PAL
4. You must provide power to a DVN 5000 via a listed Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for temporary, backup power in the
event of a power failure.

Storage Calculator
Use the following tables to calculate the minimum storage space needed under varying video settings.
The bandwidth charts are based on the following calculation:
(Average Frame Size * FPS * 60 seconds * 60 minutes * 24 hours * Number of Days * Number of Cameras) /
(1024 * 1024) = Required Disk Size (GB)
Example:
Average Frame Size = 7.12; FPS = 6; Number of Days = 30; Number of Cameras = 16
7.12 * 6 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 30 * 16 = 1,771,683,840
1,771,683,840 / 1,048,576 = 1690 GB
The following storage calculator is based on 4CIF resolution. For calculations of 2CIF, CIF and QCIF, refer to the
online DVN Storage Calculator, available on the Johnson Controls Security Portal at:

Note: DVN 5000 Series servers and clients running software version 2.9 are not backwards compatible with DVN
products running software version 2.7 or earlier. In addition, upgrading any single DVN 5000 server or client to
software version 2.9 requires all DVN products in the system to be upgraded to software version 2.9.
Compatible Software
The DVN 5000 series is compatible with the following software applications (see Table 27). For more information,
please refer to the individual software product bulletins listed on the Online Product Literature webpage (under
Security Systems>Digital Video Recording>DVN Software Suites).
Access the webpage using the following address: http://cgproducts.johnsoncontrols.com/
Note: SiteManager is an optional software package which requires purchase of a license for activation and
connectivity to multiple DVNs. On some prior versions, it was possible to bypass the proper activation process, and
it will no longer be possible to enable without the proper authorization.
