FACULTY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING DATE 22ND JULY, 2014

ATTENDANCE

The meeting commenced at 11.08am with an opening prayer by Dr. T. C.


Ogwueleka.

The Dean informed the Committee that the purpose of the meeting was to draft a
position which will be presented to the Vice-Chancellor during his visit to the
Faculty.

a. In his briefings the Dean informed the Faculty Management that he has
informed the Vice-Chancellor of the non-existence of HOD in the Faculty.
Hence, the need to appoint them soonest.

b. 500 Level graduation; the results of the 500L students (A, B &C) had been
received from FUT Minna on 16the June, 2014. However, it was observed
that there were cases of omission of some students results and the results
received were in letter grades only with no percentages marks.

The meeting resolved that in the meantime examination officers should use
the following marks for the grades A – 70%, B – 60%, C – 50%, D – 45 and E
– 40%.

Dean was requested to get the detailed and complete results of the student
from FUT Minna.
c. A case of exam malpractices of Prof. Idisi’s son was also dismissed. After
deliberation it was resolved that the HOD Civil should interact with HOD
Civil at FUT Minna while the Dean will also interact with the Dean of
Engineering at FUT Minna over the aforementioned case. It was observed
that there was need to get more information to guide the Faculty on the
way forward.

d. Equipment : the contractors that were awarded the contract to supply,


install, testing and commission equipment to the departments and Faculty
workshop have started to deliver the equipment. Departments reported as
follows: Civil Engineering 97% supplied, EE – 95% ME- 75%, Chemical E –
Not yet, Faculty Workshop – 1 % received.

ACCREDITATION RELATED ISSUES:

The need identified were as follows:

1. Office – Sultan Macciddo Centre to be explored . Dean to see if the Centre


could be released to Engineering.

2. Promotion to Professorial Cadre in the Faculty.

3. Recruitment of Teaching, non-teaching and technical staff

4. reactivation/provision of toilet to the Faculty

5. Provision of cleaners.

Departments were directed to constitute their strategic planning committee.


They should clearly state their vision, short, mid-term and long term plans,
provide estimate of cost implication, timelines, etc.

Engr. J. S. Adedibu said the closing prayers at 12.35pm.


COURTESY CALL ON DG NASRDA, ABUJA

The Vice-Chancellor University of Abuja who was in company of Dean,


Faculty of Engr. Prof. O.B. Oloche), Ag. Director Development Office (Dr.
Otaki Alanana), Ag. HOD Mechanical Engineering (Dr. I. M. Dagwa) and Ag
HOD Electrical (Engr. J.S., Adedibu) paid a courtesy call on the DG Nasrda on
the 18th August, 2014 at about 1.30pm.

a. A brief meeting was held between the UniAbuja Dean and the D.G NASRDA
with his management team (i.e Directors).

b. The DG welcomed the UniAbuja delegation and he seized the opportunity


to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor over his recent appointment as the
Vice-Chancellor of UniAbuja.

According to the DG, NASRDA has a long history with UniAbuja. In the past
they gave some sets of computers to uniAbuja Efforts were also made to
sign MOU but these met some challenges. The DG therefore expressed
delight with the visit paid by the Vice-Chancellor and his team and he went
further to give the assurance that NASRDA will give a sincere support to
UniAbuja. There was therefore the need to formalize the MOU.

C. NASRDA was already working with 18 universities so far. according to DG,


one of the centre is to support Universities, help in curriculum development
especially in the Faculties of Engineering , sciences and other related
discipline. The DG informed the team that NASRDA has about 400 Engrs
and scientist that can also help in teaching student at the tertiary levels.
Small satellites development can be built by Universities and NASRDA.
NASRDA has space picture worth 700 million naira.

VICE-CHANCELLOR’S RESPONSE

Thanked the DG and his management for the warm reception accorded.
According to the Vice-Chancellor the UniAbuja delegation paid the visit to
show then readiness to sign the MOU between UniAbuja and NASRDA.
Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor informed the meeting that when the was
in “ step B” he made effort towards bridging the gap between Research
Institutes, relevance ministries and Universities because of the disconnect
that exit between them.

The Vice-Chancellor promised to come back to sign the MOU as soon as it is


ready. At the end the DG NASRDA presented a gift of arial images
produced from the satelities and other seminaries to the Vice-Chancellor.

Coincidentally the day of the visit marked the 3rd Anniversary of the
satellite lunched by the space centre.
