During my time as a student at BYU, I’ve gone on lots of good dates and lots of bad dates, but I want to
tell you about the worst date I was ever involved in. The first date had gone really well, there was
definite chemistry, and she even told me that she would like to go out again. All signs pointed to a fun
second date. The day of our second date, she didn’t respond to my text messages. As time got closer to
the date, I called her and received no response. I was in awe. I had never been stood up before, and
wasn’t sure what to think or do. Taking my inspiration from every romcom ever made, I put on my
pajamas, turned on Raiders of the Lost Ark, and proceeded to down an entire pint of ice cream. I didn’t
do those things because I was sad, but because I felt obligated to uphold the “stood-up” tradition. To
summarize the rest of the story, she eventually contacted me and apologized, then asked if we could go
out some other time. I was forced to switch to a low-fat ice cream after she stood me up the second
time.

Durante mi tiempo como estudiante en BYU, he podido salir en muchas citas buenas y muchas citas
malas, pero quiero contarte de la peor cita que me involucró. La primera cita pasamos muy bien, hubo
buenos sentimientos, incluso me dijo que quería salir otra vez. Todo estaba señalando que la próxima
salida sería muy buena. Llegó el día de la segunda cita, y de repente no contestaba mis mensajes de
texto. La hora de la cita acercaba, entonces la llamé pero no me respondió. Quedé boquiabierto. Nunca
yo había dejado colgado así y no sabía cómo reaccionar ni que pensar. Recibiendo inspiración de las
comedias románticas populares, puse mis pijamas, empecé Los cazadores del arca perdida, y comencé a
engordarme con un medio litro de helado. No hice estas cosas porque estaba triste, los hice porque
sentí una obligación a honrar la tradición de los “colgados”. Para hacer un resumen de la historia,
después de un tiempo, ella me contactó y me pidió perdón, hasta pedir que saliéramos en el futuro. Me
obligó a hacer el cambio a un helado bajo en grasas cuando me dejó colgado la segunda vez.
