Dear Colleagues,

It wouldn’t be difficult to convince me that the term “going the extra mile” was named in
honor of Marybeth Missenda. Everything she does, she completes with exemplary
thoughtfulness, rigor, and creativity. Her willingness to help in such productive ways has always
amazed me.

Over the past 7 months I have had the honor of collaborating with Marybeth Missenda in
our pursuit to publish our paper on “The Need for a Narrative Practitioner Perspective Section in
Case Report Publication” for the Advances in Integrative Medicine journal. Her collaborative
spirit and organization kept the project moving forward through two revisions, countless
reviewer comments and changes, and have finally delivered us to a wait for our final review.

To the project she brought her skill with technology which allowed the project to
be completed smoothly in an asynchronous manner. This allowed us to fit this important work
into our busy teaching schedules. She also brought her own insights and review of the
practitioner narrative literature to the paper which helped to defend our ideas through reviewer
comments. Her insight and thoroughness in review of the published literature that supported
our proposal demonstrated an academic familiarity with the research on the topic.

It will be a pleasure to collaborate again with Marybeth in future opportunities for

scholarship around this important topic. This is an excellent example of Marybeth’s dedication to
scholarship at MUIH, and one of many many reasons her rank and position within the University
would be very much to our benefit.

In Partnership,
