Research design and methodology

This chapter is a presentation of the methodology and research design of this

study. It includes the discussion of the description of design and research setting, the

respondents, the research instrument used, validity and reliability of the instrument,

including the gathering procedure and statistical treatment of data.

Research design

This research study will use descriptive research design to gather information on

a current situations and conditions about Effects of Social Media to the Studying

Performance of Selected Grade 10 Students of Sacred Heart High School.

Research Setting

The study will be conduct at Sacred Heart High School, Calagbangan, Sipocot,

Camarines Sur.

Respondent

The respondents of this study are the selected grade 10 of Sacred Heart High

School.

Table 1 shows the respondents of the study, the total population and the sample.

Research instrument

The researcher use survey questionnaire in gathering data to determine the Effects

of Social Media to the Studying Performance of Selected Grade 10 Students of Sacred

Heart High School. The set of questionnaire will be given to Grade 10 students of Sacred

High School. Regarding on how social media affect their studying performance.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

To gather data, researcher first get the sample of respondents, then organized

the survey questionnaire and validated by the research adviser. Researcher ask

permission to the school principal and to the adviser of the selected students to conduct

the survey questionnaire to our respondents.

STATISTICAL TOOL

The Statistical tool used in the research study were the SLOVIN formula, frequency

count, and percentage technique to determine the Effects of Social Media to the Studying

Performance of Selected Grade 10 Students of Sacred Heart High School.

In calculating the sample size the researcher use the SLOVIN formula:

𝑁
𝑛=
1 + 𝑁𝑒 2
82
𝑛=
1 + 82(.05)2
82
𝑛=
1 + 82(0.0025)
82
𝑛=
1 + 0.205
82
𝑛=
1.205
𝑛 = 68
Therefore the sample size is 68.

Frequency count and percentage technique was used to quantify the population

and percentage of the respondents.The percent formula is:

𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦
%= x 100%
𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦

Concerning the effects of social media sites in studying performance of student, the

rating scale and simple mean were used. The formula is:

𝑥 = ∑ 𝑥𝑖
𝑖=1
𝑛
