(The Chancellor Masters and Scholars of the University of Oxford v. Rameshwari

Photocopy Services), the Delhi High Court has dismissed the copyright infringement
petition initiated in August 2012 by three publishers (Oxford, Cambridge and Taylor
& Francis) against a photocopy shop located in the premises of Delhi
University. While the publishers made the argument that the creation of course
packs and the photocopying of academic material for the same amounted to an
infringement of the exclusive copyright of the authors and publishers, the
defendants argued that the reproduction of materials for educational purposes fell
within the exceptions to copyright under Section 52(1)(i) of the Copyright Act.
The Government of India issued an ordinance ('Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of
Undertakings) Ordinance, 1969') and nationalised the 14 largest commercial banks with effect from
the midnight of 19 July 1969. These banks contained 85 percent of bank deposits in the country. The
stated reason for the nationalisation was to give the government more control of credit delivery.

Hadiya's choice to marry Shafin Jahan v. Asokan K.N. and Ors.

The apex court was hearing an oral request made by Jahan, the man who married
Hadiya, a homoeopathy student in her mid-twenties. Hadiya had converted from
Hinduism to Islam before marrying Jahan.

The NIA had argued in the Supreme Court that she was indoctrinated, radicalised and
brainwashed. "You can investigate any of the aspects, but you cannot investigate the
marital aspect... you cannot investigate whether she married a good person or a bad
person. That's her choice," Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra observed.

Supreme Court of India (SCI) in Justice K.S. Puttaswamy (Retd) vs Union of India is a resounding
victory for privacy. The ruling is the outcome of a petition challenging the constitutional validity of the
Indian biometric identity scheme Aadhaar. The right to privacy is protected as an intrinsic part of the

the Constitution.

The Supreme Court in its landmark verdict on Tuesday ruled that the practice of
triple talaq is void and illegal.

The five-judge bench set aside triple talaq by a 3-2 majority. Justice Rohinton F.
Nariman and Justice Uday U. Lalit set it aside, terming it unconstitutional and
violative of Article 14, while Justice Kurian Joseph set it aside on the grounds that it
is against the teachings of the Quran, according to the Indian Express. Chief
Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice Abdul Nazeer backed the triple talaq. “Triple talaq
was part of Muslim personal law and hence enjoys the status of fundamental rights,”
Justice Khehar said.

Anti- Immigration Policies: The Trump administration and several House

Republicans have made it clear that poor immigrants are not welcome in the
United States. They blame uneducated, unskilled newcomers for a host of
social and economic problems — such as taking away blue-collar jobs from
Americans and burdening taxpayers.

Narmada Bachao Andolan: The cause is this, that the local people have not been given the voice

London Dairy vs Londonderry

London Dairy sells premium quality ice cream, Londonderry sells inexpensive confectionery
items. Phonetically, they are the same, and you might expect this to go the way of the Zara case.
However, the Bombay High Court didn’t, in April 2016. This is because everything besides the
sound of the brand was different. The order held there to be no visual or structural similarities
between the products, and, for the want of demonstration of deceit or misrepresentation or
differences in color, trade dress, the goods and their pricing, sided with the defendant
(Londonderry).

The Irish government on Monday formally committed to hold a historic referendum on

abortion, confirming that a vote will be held by the end of May.

The referendum on whether to repeal a 35-year-old constitutional ban on abortion will

Catholic conservatism.

Murder of Naina Sahni

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Naina Sahni Sharma (circa 1966- 2 July 1995) was the victim of Tandoor murder case.[1] On 2 July
1995, she was killed by her husband Sushil Sharma, a Congress youth leader and MLA. Naina
herself was a worker in the Congress party. Sushil Sharma was convicted for the murder by the Trial
Court, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court. On 8 October 2013, Sharma was awarded life
imprisonment by the Supreme Court.[2][3]

Tandoor Murder Case[edit]

Sushil Sharma objected to his wife Naina Sahni's friendship with Matloob Karim. Matloob and Naina
were classmates and fellow Congress workers. Sushil suspected Naina of having an extramarital
relationship with Matloob. On the night of 2 July 1995, Sushil came home and saw Naina talking on
the phone and consuming alcohol. Naina on seeing Sushil hung up. Sushil redialed the phone to find
Matloob on the other end. Enraged he fatally shot Naina. He took the body to a restaurant called
Bagiya and tried to dispose it off with the restaurant manager, Keshav Kumar. The body was
chopped into pieces and put in a tandoor (clay oven) to burn.[4] Police arrested Keshav Kumar but
Sharma managed to flee. He surrendered on July 10, 1995.[2] The case also involved the use of DNA
evidence to establish the identity of the victim.
The first postmortem was conducted at LHMC Delhi, the cause of death was opined to be burn
injuries. The second postmortem was ordered by Lieutenant Governor Delhi, which was conducted
by team of three doctors from three different hospitals headed by T D Dogra, they detected two
bullets from head and neck region, opined cause of death due to firearm injuries, with that the
course of investigation changed and the actual story came to light, this case is landmark citation for
fruitful second autopsy.[5] Delhi Police investigated the case and filed a chargesheet on 27 July 1995
in a Sessions Court. On 7 November 2003, Sushil Sharma was sentenced to death and restaurant
manager, Keshav Kumar was given seven years rigorous imprisonment.[2]
Sharma appealed against District Court Judgement in Delhi High Court trial court judgement. On 19
February 2007, the Delhi High Court upheld the lower courts' decision.[2]
On 8 October 2013, a three-judge bench of Chief Justice P. Sathasivam and Justices Ranjana Desai
and Ranjan Gogoi, of Supreme Court upheld Sharma's conviction. However, the court commuted his
death sentence to life imprisonment because Sharma doesn't have a criminal antecedent and it is
not a crime against society, but it is a crime committed by the accused due to a strained personal
relationship with his wife.

they could contact Indrani when they saw her picture and read about her when she
became Peter Mukerjea’s wife.

*she told them she would not be able to introduce them to her friends and
acquaintances as her children. She said she would introduce them as her sister and
brother and she would provide us money for their education if they agree to it.

*Sheena Bora comes to Mumbai to live with the Mukerjeas. After her graduation from St
Xavier's College, Bora joins reliance. Indrani introduces Bora as her sister to Mumbai's
social circles.
*Trouble started in the Mukerjea household when Sheena and Rahul(who were

case involving an unidentified pistol. During interrogation, Rai spills the beans, he
revealed that he, Indrani and Sanjeev Khanna(indrani's ex-husband) strangled Sheena
in a moving car and later disposed the body after burning it. He is taken by the police to
the murder site in Lonavla where the alleged charred remains of Bora is found.

"Indrani didn't want Sheena to inherit the property, so she got her killed"

Currently it is suspected that Sheena was already engaged to her step brother (Rahul
Mukherjee).which might be a reason for her murder.

Marie Antoinette’s wedding – “per procurationem” – took place at the Hapsburg

Court Church of St Augustin, within the great Hofburg Palace’s Augustine Wing,
on 19 April 1770, at six o’clock in the evening. Naturally, it was a proxy wedding
as her bridegroom, the Dauphin Louis-Auguste, was awaiting her instead in
France, and so, he was represented by Marie Antoinette’s brother, the Archduke
Ferdinand, at the altar. The royal couple would not meet until Marie Antoinette
arrived at Compiegne, where the marriage, already celebrated by proxy in
Vienna, would enable the two to finally meet for the first time.

The Delhi High Court had declared the appointment of 21 AAP MLAs as Parliamentary secretaries void
ab initio, since the Lieutenant Governor had not given his assent to a Bill exempting Parliamentary
Secretaries from the definition of office of profit.
The principles of natural justice dictate that the accused must be granted a fair hearing. The Election
Commission’s unilateral decision earlier yesterday to disqualify 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs for
occupying offices of profit was taken without there being a single hearing on the issue. "gross violation
of natural justice because the Election Commission (EC) decided the matter in undue haste
and without affording and giving any opportunity of fair hearing to the petitioners".
The findings are, therefore, contrary to the provisions of Article 14 of Constitution of India,
ultra vires, void ab initio and an attack on the basic fabric of democracy.
