Course Description
This course provides opportunities for students to develop essential skills in various
career pathways related to Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). Students will explore and
cultivate skills in food and nutrition sciences, childcare, interior design, clothing and textile
construction, fashion design and merchandising, consumerism, entrepreneurship, family
relationships, personal responsibility, and career and job-related tasks. STEM (sciences,
technology, engineering, and math) education will be closely incorporated throughout the
semester with some FCCLA integration.
Required Materials
Students will need to bring a notebook, a writing utensil and a folder or binder, every
day to class. No textbook is required.
Grading Policy
Rules
Students will need to show respect toward one another and to the teacher. Respect is
shown when students arrive to class on time, by raising a hand before speaking, staying on task,
participating in discussions, having required materials, paying attention to directions, and not
standing up (throwing away garbage, sharpening a pencil, etc.) at inappropriate times.
Inappropriate times would be while I am giving instructions or a lecture. Appropriate times
would include beginning or end of class, between activities while working on an assignment,
working on a project, and working on exit tickets.
Additional Details
Late work: Late work will be accepted one week after due date.
Attendance: Assignments, exit tickets, and participation are taken in class, so attendance is
mandatory. If a student needs to miss class, makeup work can be done for assignments, but
participation points and the exit tickets cannot be made up. Tardiness will be noted, if becomes
regular, participation points will be docked.
Cell phones: Cell phones will need to on silent during class and cannot be used for personal use
during class. During class, they will need to be in a bag or face down on the desk.
Extra Credit: No extra credit will be given. Students will have instead have the opportunity to
redo assignments and projects.
