Introduction to Emotional Enhancement session

This session will be focused on optimising your emotional states and is suitable
for people from all backgrounds and professions.

No prior knowledge is assumed by the trainer or necessary for you to benefit


easily from each of the practical exercises today.

Learning outcome:

You will learn to appreciate your emotions, the positive intention of emotions
and how to be more present.

Style of delivery:

You will participate with practical methods, which can be experienced as an


individual and within a group context.

A. Acceptance – all emotions have a positive intention

Key points:
 Emotions are signals with the intention of bringing something to our
attention e.g. sadness means we cared about something, anger that we
perceive we are not being valued
 Emotions have a location and a direction in the body – you can even
change physical sensations with this e.g. change pain
 We do the best with what we know at the time – it is good to be gentle
with yourself
 Spinning great feelings do it! For good feelings, find the location and
direction and spin it faster to feel great!

B. Boost yourself – build and empower positive states

Practical technique: Circle of Excellence

Why do it?
 To give yourself a boost and enhance your performance e.g. speak with
more confidence, perform sport more intensely, develop strengths and
abilities and energise them!

Positive steps:
1. Imagine a circle on the ground in front of you, large enough to step into.
2. Within that circle imagine every good thing about yourself. Take every good
deed, every goal achieved, every strength, and any other source of positivity
within you, and place it in that circle. Imagine the colors, shapes, sounds and
feelings building inside the circle as you observe from the outside.
Do you want to experience inside yourself what’s happening in that circle of
(your) excellence? If so,
3. Physically step inside your circle. Take a deep breath and feel the positive
vibrations. See the beautiful, positive colors in your mind’s-eye. Enjoy it and
bathe in those great feelings!

C. Integrating new choices

Practical technique: Visual Squash

Why do it?
 Overcome any internal conflict so that you can move forwards with
greater congruence, wellbeing and personal effectiveness.

Positive steps:

1. Identify the two conflicting parts and ‘name’ them.


2. Place each of the parts on to the upturned palms. Describe each part fully,
what it looks like, how it sounds and feels.
3. Access the positive intention for each part.
5. Go inside and generate x3 new behavioural choices, which satisfy the positive
intention of both parts.
6. Test and integrate the new behavioural choices by bringing them into the
body with both hands.
7. Take the positive changes into times and places in the future where these
changes have already happened now.
