Teacher- Michele Walsh
Major Study- Violin

This year, my third year at the Conservatorium, I wish to pursue my love for both
chamber music and orchestral playing through membership of both the
Conservatorium ensembles as well as opportunities outside of the
Conservatorium. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge both of these ensemble
settings provide.

In February I am applying for two Chamber Music Institutes in America. The first
is the Icicle Creek Chamber Music Institute in July 2017. The second is the
Vermont Chamber Music Festival in August of 2017.

In 2017, the Soleil quartet, in which I play first violin, will be working on Ravel
String Quartet, Borodin String Quartet 2, Mendelsohn Quartet Opus 44, No.2 and
Debussy String Quartet. As a quartet we plan on participating in as many master
classes as possible as well as continuing with coaching from Meta Weiss through
the Small Ensemble subject.

This year in solo repertoire I will be working on a range of works that will
provide challenges both technically and artistically. In Trimester 1, my
repertoire choices reflect the requirements of the Bachelor of Music Technical
Exam. I am working on the Bach G Minor Fugue, Paganini Caprice 16 and Saint
Seans Concerto 3. In First Trimester I will also be working with a pianist on the
Elgar Sonata for Violin and Piano, and am voluntarily participating in the
accompaniment subject offered to pianists.

During the year, the quartet will be applying for a place at the 2017 Australian
Festival of Chamber Music. I will be entering the Bach Prize, Paganini Prize,
4MBS Chamber Music Prize, Sonata Prize, the Matilda Jane Aplin competition and
an internship with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

My aim this year is to increase my solo and chamber repertoire, to work with
teachers and mentors who will help me develop my technique, interpretation,
ensemble and direction skills to a standard that will assist me to gain
employment and professional engagements.
