State Standards:
Language Standard 6 - Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words
and phrases, sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career
readiness level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when
considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression.
Writing Standard 9 - Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis,
reflection, and research.
Davis District Essential Elements ELA.EE.RL.11-12.2 - Recount the main events of the text which
are related to the theme or central idea.
Student will be able to answer questions about a passage that they have read.

DAP:
Developmentally appropriate, going along with the grade standards, every student can
participate, hands on and minds on…
Students will split into their three separate reading groups and will review the vocabulary for
the book "The Outsiders." Peer tutors will assist and ask students to give definitions and/or
identify the word based on the given definition. The teacher will review pieces of the book such
as the title, the author, and what happened in the previous chapter. Check for student
understanding.
Students will turn to chapter 6 of "The Outsiders" and will follow along with the reading. The
teacher will ask specific questions out of the Attainment's booklet and any other questions that are
deemed necessary based on the level of understanding that the students show. Students in group one
will use the Student Response Book to answer specific questions with picture answers.
Students will take out their writing journals and will answer the questions with assistance from
their peer tutor. They will work on page 40 to page 44. The teacher will walk around making sure each
student understands what an opinion is and that they are staying on task. Ask students what their
opinions on the chapter were.
