for: Hannah Metcalf, Iowa State University, May, 2015 graduate
To whom it may concern: I am very please to write a letter of recommendation for Hannah Metcalf. I was Hannah’s Field Experience Supervisor at Iowa State University. I observed her during her second eight week teaching experience in a Third grade class at Hillis Elementary in the Des Moines Public School District. It was a privilege and pleasure to observe Hannah interacting and applying her skills with the students.
Hannah was very positive, complimenting the students and encouraging them to do their best at all times. I observed a guided reading group the concentrated on a non- fiction book. Some of the students struggled with the book and Hannah continuously encouraged them. She did a great job of concentrating on the small group buy also scanning he whole class as they worked.
Hannah Did a great job of aligning her lessons with district standards. Her lesson plans were precise and she reflected on the lessons to make sure the next one would be that much better.
I also observed a lesson in Math. The lesson was on telling time. It included using a clock on the interactive board and involving various students to explain their work to the class. The lesson was review for a chapter test and was very well done. The students that needed help reading the test pulled up in a small group.
Hannah also made great connections with the students. She has a very enthusiastic way of teaching, combining professionalism and a great sense of humor.
Hannah has an excellent work ethic and worked well with the other staff members at HIllis Elementary. She communicated well with parents, students, and other teachers. She was professional at all times.
Hannah’s cooperating teacher stated that, “Hannah showed great enthusiasm, flexibility, and was eager to learn.” She also stated that, “Hannah thoroughly thinks through lessons and is well planned and organized.”
Hannah would be a great hire for any elementary school teaching position. She would be a great asset to the faculty. She has a very natural ability to be a great teacher. Hannah is excited about growing as a teacher.
