Death Penalty Response
1. In North Carolina's system they save $11 million per year by abolishing the death
penalty. Today in California the death row inmates increase per year, 750 are in death
row, only three execution in the past 10 years. Many taxpayers pay for the death penalty,
but all the time they pay for the death row, all of the food and market goes up. Despite
killing them, this doesn’t make it any better, in matter of fact they make it worse. The
crime rate goes higher and higher per year.
2. This text and other text make it the same, most articles talk about how much money the
government waste and how the jail is overpopulated, they are two sides believing that
they are pros and cons.
3. The author's purpose is to inform you how we’re in debt and don’t need to waste more
money. The justice of the criminals are inconcerated. This article is giving you both
sides, both pro and con. In addition, it gives you a chart about how many people were
executed in the U.S since the 1700’s.
4. The audience are the people who read this, trying to get informed about the death
penalty and reading which side you are in.
5. The most relevant detail is reason #2 because it informs you how a criminal can ratify
the death row with the right amount of votes they need. Number 5 gives great details as
well, it talks about how a serial killer kills their children, the parents would want revenge
for his son, (heat of passion). In that moment the parents don’t think about what’s going
to happen if they get revenge.
6. This article is ethos and logos because its entertaining/ persuading and giving you
research evidence. The whole article gives you evidence and the chart of how many
inconcerated killers died and with what.
7. A possible theme can be defecting the death penalty, no one would like to die with a
needle or an electric chair. If the police officers want to torture them, that’s different
because the government wouldn’t be wasting money at that point. The three sections
that caught my attention were; reason 2, 1, and 4, they had amazing details and
statistics about what the poll research center said.
8. The text helped me understand what position I was in, either pro or con about the death
row.
9. I would change a bit the diagram the writer/ author provided because its a diagram from
the 1700’s and the population of criminals that are incarcerated have grown. I would put
a diagram that is from last year or around the 21st century.
