When the entire World was in darkness, the knowledge of Sun
has risen in the horizon of Aryabarta, the rays illumined the entire land and the world later. An epoch-making event in the history of Indian System of Education is the beginning of culture, literature and science during the Vedic period. The period from 1500 BC to 1000 BC is mostly considered the Vedic period of education as most of the Vedic literature were composed. The Indians were mostly indifferent to material advancement. So, India could make less progress in material and economic realm. But her contribution in the field of education was illumining very true, it is that no such remarkable progress was made in different areas of knowledge. Vedic education by and large, was successful in developing character, moral science, personality, different branches of knowledge and for attainment of social efficiency and prosperity.
IMPORTANCE OF VEDIC EDUCATION
Development of character of the students was epitomized
during the Vedic period. The Vedic teacher realized that if the students would learn good manners, sound habits and positive attitude from early life their future would be peaceful, happy and sublime. Regulated diary routine work was regarded indispensable for developing in students a sound moral character. Students were required to lead disciplined and regulated life doing all activities in time without fail. Simple living, high thinking, honesty, sincerity, dutifulness, obedience, loyalty, fellow feeling, reverence to elders etc were duly emphasized for character development.
WHAT IS PERSONALITY
Most educational philosophers consider all round harmonious
development of individual to be the main aim of education. In other words, physical, mental and spiritual of child’s personality should be harmoniously developed. Gandhi Ji laid stress on this aim of education. According to him, “true education is that which draws out and simultaneously the spiritual, intellectual and physical faculties of children. “Pestalozzi also has highlighted this aim of education. AIMS OF VEDIC EDUCATION FOR PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT OF THE COLLEGE STUDENT:- 1. Inculcation of a spirit of piety righteousness. 2. Preservation and spread of ancient of culture. 3. Development of personality. 4. Formation of character. 5. Inculcation of vocational efficiency. Aim and principle of Vedic system of education if will be followed by the present of the college student, no doubt they will improve their character, personality, thought and behaviour. Really if they will think full and realized the aims of education, definitely they will sound from personality point of you. Hence it is clear that Vedic system of education a great support for personality development of college student. CONCLUSION The aim of Vedic education was very lofty. It aimed at providing opportunity for the development of human qualities to enable students to get full opportunity to develop themselves fully. It is beyond doubt that “Vedic” education was fully capable of high character building, development of various branches of knowledge, Social personality etc.
