2017-2018 Cadillac Leadership Project
“Cadillac Pathway Pavilion Project”

For 27 years the Cadillac Chamber of Commerce has proudly held


a Leadership class. We have the opportunity to gain an in depth
education about how Cadillac continues to operate and grow at
the hands of strong leaders with the intention of becoming strong
community leaders ourselves! Each year the class chooses and com-
pletes a Community Service Project which is a vital component to
the curriculum of this program as well as providing a valuable asset “Cadillac Pathway - Pavilion Project”
to our community. This year, the 2017-2018 class has chosen to part- 2017/2018 Cadillac Leadership Community Project
ner with Northern Michigan Mountain Bike Association (NMMBA)
to construct an ADA accessible Pavilion on the trailhead at Cadillac
Pathway, located at 3736 S Seeley Rd, Cadillac, MI 49601 .

The construction of the pavilion will be ADA compliant allowing
access to those with disabilities. It will help to promote a healthy
lifestyle, raise awareness of the current Cadillac Pathways trail sys-
tem, promote eco-tourism in our community, and help boost the Contact Name

country skiing, mountain biking/racing, fat-tire biking/racing, and

agement agreement for the Cadillac Pathway Pavilion Project, cre-
ating room for increased parking and participation at the Cadillac

at no cost to families and is supported completely by contributions
from individuals, businesses and local philanthropy. 100% of donat-
ed funds go toward the purchase and mailing of books to area chil-
dren.
As of January 1, 2018, 2132 children in the Wexford-Missaukee
area are participating in the program and receiving a book monthly
and 1704 children have graduated from the program. That means
that a total of 3,836 children in the area have benefitted from the
program since it began in June of 2013. Overall, the program has
distributed total of 92,892 books to local children during that time.
Research by the Dolly Parton Foundation on program participants
has shown an increase in the number of books in the home, espe-
cially for low-income homes, and an increase in the frequency of
parental reading to their children. Both of these factors are corre-
lated with improved reading scores.
The Great Start Collaborative is made up of parents, profession-
als, local agencies, and schools who are working together to pro-
mote and improve our local system of resources and supports for
