the southern curve or Aomori Bay.
Population 15 about 100,000 aoo area
ls 3.71 square miles.
The 58th staged 65 ll1rcratt at
:11'0 to hit this target. Although

the first time a major strike had

MISSION 299 -- ICHINllIIYA
This 15 one of the secondary cit-
ies rl thin a 30 mile radius of Nago-
ya. It began early in the war to
convert industries into satellitee
of Naga,ya's aircraft industry. It
is nine miles west of Nagoya on the
Tokkaido (louble track main 11ne
whicb runs fran Nagoya to Gitu. It
is a former textile center nO'll' pro-
ducing large quantities of war lllat-
erials. Population is 50.000. On
13 July .8 percent of the built_up
area was destroyed in an incendiary
attack.
The 73rd Wing hed the target and
put up 127 atrcratt against it, 122
of them dropping 865 tons of lacen_
diaries through no cloud from 15,000
feet. Fifteen bombed visually and
107 by radar. Two bombed other
targets and three returned early.
One wind run plane was airborne and
also bombed the primary. seven of
the 8_29s landed at 111'0.
Nineteen enemy fighters were seen
and 15 attacks made on the bombers
