fiber optic cable

CentraCore OPT-GW
CentraCore Optical Ground Wire is available in fiber counts up to 72, and due to its small
size, offers a unique solution to the diameter and weight concerns on many of today’s
overloaded towers. A central stainless steel tube houses the optical fibers. The stainless
steel tube is then inserted into an aluminum pipe. The pipe provides added crush protec-
tion while increasing the conductivity to accommodate a wide range of fault current needs.
The fibers are protected from environmental conditions (lightning, short circuit, loading) by
the stainless steel tube and the aluminum pipe to ensure reliability and longevity.

SB01 Splice Box Enclosure

The SB01 Splice Box Enclosure is used to house optical fibers in a protective, moisture-free
environment. Electrical utilities and optical cable installers use the splice enclosure for inline
splicing or cable taps.
The splice box, circular in shape, made from cast ductile iron with a galvanized coating, is
furnished with four (2-aluminum, 2- plastic) plugged cable ports and (1) splice tray capable of
storing twelve (12) splices. Additional trays can be purchased separately. Maximum tray capacity
of the enclosure is eight (8) including a transition tray, if needed.

features
Cable Connector Kit
One connector kit is required to secure each cable to the enclosure. The cable connector kit is
attached to the enclosure by threading the outside body into the cable port. The cable is then
prepared for assembly into connector according to the installation instructions provided. All
optical units are inserted through the connector, the cable is positioned into the connector body
and secured with a sleeve device and set screws. Each kit is sized specific to the cable design
and ordered separately.
Re-Entry Made Easy
Re-entry is easily achieved by unscrewing the nut that secures the housing cover. Special
re-entry kits are not required.
Naturally Bullet Resistant
Manufactured from iron and steel, the SB01 splice box is bullet resistant without the need for
additional protective covering as found with other splice enclosures.
Pre-mountable with Buffer Tube Storage
The SB01 can be premounted to the structure before completion of the splicing phase. The
enclosure has the internal capacity to store approximately 25 feet (7.62 m) of buffer tube. This
storage feature is a cost savings, whereby eliminating the need for an external coil storage
bracket (stainless steel tube optical ground wire designs do not apply here and will require a
storage bracket).

For future splicing, the SB01 is designed with an internal tray holder that easily detaches from
the enclosure; buffer tubes can be uncoiled and the tray lowered to the ground.

Vibration Damper
Vibration Dampers work to cancel damaging fatigue caused by wind-induced vibration. In contrast
to most tuned damping devices, which operate best only near their natural frequencies, our vibration
dampers are designed for efficient transfer and dissipation of energy for a wide spectrum of frequen-
cies that occur on transmission and distribution lines. They feature all aluminum clamp construction to
match expansion/contraction of conductor and break-away bolts for easy installation and proper torque.

Spiral Vibration Damper

Spiral Vibration Dampers have a helically formed damping section sized for interplay of
damper and cable to provide the action/reaction motion that opposed the natural vibration
wave. A smaller gripping section gently grips the cable so that cable and fiber are not
damaged or distorted and there is no optical signal loss. Spiral dampers are recommended
for the ADSS cable when the combination of span length and tension indicate by vibration
review that external vibration protection is required.

Indoor/Outdoor Loose Tube Cable

Indoor/outdoor stranded loose tube combines the robust mechanical and environmental
characteristics of an outside plant cable with the flexibility of an inside plant riser cable. By
installing indoor/outdoor stranded loose tube, costly splice locations entering into a building
are avoided, being routed directly from the outside plant to telecommunications closets, or
main distribution frames (MDF) through the riser of a building and eliminating the “50-foot
rule.” Indoor/Outdoor Stranded Design loose tube cable is moisture and U.V. resistant, S-Z
stranded for easy mid-span access, UL-listed type OFNR (UL1666) riser rated, and can be
used in both duct and lashed applications.

fiber optic cable

®
MicroCore
MicroCore® is an advanced fiber optic cable technology that allows maximum utilization of existing
or future conduit systems with minimal initial investment. Using microduct technology, MicroCore
cables are jetted through a network of microducts. Changing or adding to your network is as simple
as jetting new fiber optic cables through existing microducts that are part of your conduit system.
That reduces up-front capital costs and allows you to build a network to the size you need it today,
while providing the ability to easily expand future capacity.

Dielectric Access MicroCore

advantages
Minimize Investment and Boost Revenue
Using microduct technology, MicroCore allows you to deploy fiber when you need it. That saves up-
front capital expense and allows you to deploy deeper into your network. With greater loop penetra-
tion, you can sign up more subscribers and generate revenue more quickly.
Future-proof Your Network
Because MicroCore allows you to install fiber only when you need it, you can ensure that future
installations will use the latest fiber optic technology. So you can upgrade your network in step with
fiber technology advancements, and scale it to the size you need.
Override Existing Networks
Dielectric Uni-Tube MicroCore
MicroCore has the flexibility to easily override existing networks. An override allows MicroCore cables
and microducts to be jetted into conduit systems with existing cable, to expand networks that are at
capacity. No need to get expensive and time consuming permits, disrupt network performance, or
pay for property damage for sidewalk or pavement removal.

SkyWrap®
Successfully installed worldwide since 1982, SkyWrap® is a fiber optic cable helically
applied on ground wires or phase conductors. A specially designed spinning machine is used
to wrap the cable under controlled conditions. This system offers a complete communication
link designed and engineered for high-voltage environments at low cost.

SkyWrap® is the ideal solution when access to the overhead line is problematic. The instal-
lation equipment is lightweight and easy to handle. And, with SkyWrap® there’s no need to
de-energize the line. The cable can be wrapped on the ground wire under live-line conditions.

outer jacket
• Ground Wire: designed for UV aging, lightning, fault current and toughness.
• Phase Conductor: all of the above plus track resistance up to 150kV.
• The cable sheath protects the optical unit and features different design properties
depending on the application.
• Specialized jackets available to fit your unique circumstances.

fiber
• Cable can accommodate up to 72 fibers, 144 fibers possible with a dual wrap.

Indoor/Outdoor Plenum
Tight Buffered Cable
Indoor/Outdoor Tight Buffered cables are specified for campus network cabling between
buildings where interbuilding lengths are short enough that the installer can recognize
savings from the lower costs of terminating tight buffered cables.

For indoor applications the cable is OFNP listed. For outdoor applications the cable is
manufactured with an outer jacket that incorporates a UV stabilizer for protection against
exposure to the sun plus an anti-fungus protection for use in underground applications.

features cable components

• Cables are water blocked and meet
water penetration requirements of
GR-20-CORE (this helps ensure
that any damage to cable is restricted to
a repairable length of several meters
and minimizes the likelihood of having to
replace the entire cable in the case of
backhoe damage)
• Outer jacket is moisture-resistent,
fungus-resistent and UV resistant for
outdoor use
• With a plenum rating, this cable can be
used in all environments: plenum, riser,
gerneral inside plant, outside plant

Indoor/Outdoor Riser Tight Buffered Cable

Indoor/Outdoor Tight Buffered cables are specified for campus network cabling between
buildings where interbuilding lengths are short enough that the installer can recognize
savings from the lower costs of terminating tight buffered cables.

For indoor applications the cable is OFNR listed. For outdoor applications the cable is
manufactured with an outer jacket that incorporates a UV stabilizer for protection against
exposure to the sun plus an anti-fungus protection for use in underground applications.

features cable components

• Cables are water blocked and meet
water penetration requirements of
GR-20-CORE (this helps ensure
that any damage to cable is restricted to
a repairable length of several meters
and minimizes the likelihood of having to
replace the entire cable in the case of
backhoe damage)
• Outer jacket is moisture-resistent,
fungus-resistent and UV resistant for
outdoor use
• With a riser rating, this cable can be
used in all environments: riser, gerneral
inside plant, outside plant
