Re: District New Correspondent
Congratulations on becoming a District New Correspondent for the Pontypridd & Llantrisant
Observer. I'm sure your contribution as a source of local news will be greatly valued by the
community you represent. We have always enjoyed a very close working relationship with our
District News Correspondents because we not only rely on them to contribute a weekly column
bbut also to provide us with information and tip-offs for relevant stories within their communities.
T'm sure our working relationship will continue on this happy and friendly basis.
‘Asa weekly newspaper, we are governed by particularly strict deadlines. With this in mind, we
‘would appreciate it if you would submit your column by 4pm every Thursday for inclusion in the
following edition, The columns may be sent by post, fax or email and the maximum word count
is 1,000 words. Each columnist is also asked to submit a recent passport photograph of
themselves, or we can arrange to take a photograph for you if you wish
The content of a District News column is entirely up to you although 1 always advise columnists
to never expect readers to come to them with snippets of news. Very often it’s a case of building
up a source of regular contacts from local organisations as well as picking up pieces of
information from notice boards and shop windows! Naturally it is edited for legal purposes and
due to problems encountered in the past we are unable to include notices for engagements nor any
items that would openly promote a private business,
As payment, the Observer pays 4p per printed line and a “tip-off” fee for any pieces of news that
we make into larger news stories once we are made aware of them by yourself.
I sincerely hope you derive a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction from your weekly
contribution to the Pontypridd & Llantrisant Observer. We very much look forward to working
With you. Should you require any further information, then please do not hesitate to contact me.
cn sincerely
Lie lee
