Slokas for kids

Welcome to the post of Slokas for Kids. This post contains some simple shlokas for kids to
recite. Our ancestors knew the efficacy of teaching slokas to kids. When the kids start reciting
these, their thoughts and behavior will transform and enhance. The recitation of the Sanskrit
language will improve the speech of the children.

Beginning Sloka:
Om Sahana Vavatu Sahanau Bhunaktu
Sahaveeryam Karavavahai
Tejas Vinavati Tamastu ma vidhwishavahai
Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi

Meaning: May He protect both of us. May He nourish both of us. May we both acquire the
capacity (to study and understand the scriptures). May our study be brilliant. May we not argue
with each other. Om peace, peace, peace.

Hayagreeva Stotra :
Gyaananandamayam Devam
Nirmala Spadikakruthim
Aadaram Sarva Vidyanaam
Hyagreevam Upasmahe

Meaning: Vidyaarambam begins with a prayer to Sri Hyagreeva (Lord with the Horse’s face)
Haya-horse; greeva-neck. You are the presiding deity for all knowledge. We pray to you to bless
us with all the knowledge.

1. Ganapati Stotra:
Vakratunda mahaakaaya
suuryakoTi samaprabha
nirvighnam kuruu me deva
sarva karyeshu sarvadaa

Meaning: Oh Lord with the twisted trunk and massive appearance,


whose splendor is equal to that of a billion Suns ...
Please bless me such that I do not face any obstacles in any
of my endeavors anytime
Gajananam Bhuta Ganathi Sevitam
Kapittha Jambu Palasara Bhaksitam
Uma Sutam Shoka Vinasha Karanam
Namami Vignesvara Pada Pankajam

Meaning: He who has the face of an elephant, one who is worshipped by the Bhootha ganam, He
who eats the essence of kapitha and Jumbu fruits, He who is the son of Uma Devi and He who
allieviates the ill feelings in us. O! Lord Vigneshwara who is an embodiment of all the above, we
offer our Namaskarams at your Divine feet.

Shuklambara Dharam Vishnum


Shashivarnam Chatur Bhujam
Prasanna Vadanam Dhyayet
Sarva Vignopa Santaye

Meaning: Lord Vigneshwara, who wears a white garment, who is all pervading, who has a bright
complexion (like a full moon), who has four hands (representing all power), who has an ever-
smiling face, upon that deity I meditate, for the removal of all obstacles.

Vakratunda Mahakaaya
Koti-soorya samaprabha
Nirvighnam kuru me Deva
Sarva-karyeshu Sarvadaa

Meaning: O, Lord Ganesha of the curved trunk and massive body, the one whose splendor is
equal to millions of Suns, please bless me to that I do not face any obstacles in my endeavors.

Mooshika vahana modaka hasta


Chamara karna vilambita sootra
Vamana roopa Maheswara putra
Vigna-vinayaka paada namaste

Meaning:He who has the mouse as his vahana(vehicle),


He who always keeps Modhakam (a traditional type of sweet)
He who has ears that resemble a hand held fan,
He who wears a chain-like ornament around his waist,
He who is short in stature,
He who is the son of Parameshwar,
O Lord Vinayaka who is all the above and he who always removes our obstacles,
We worship your Divine Feet

Every day, I bow down to that Lord, the son of Gowri, the Lord one who lives in the heart of the
devotees, blessing them always with good health and prosperity.

Prathamam Vakratundam Cha


Ekadantam Dwiteeyakam
Thriteeyam Krishna Pingaaksham
Gajavaktram Chaturthakam

Starting from here the twelve names of Ganesha are mentioned and he is worshipped in those
different forms. The first as the Lord with the curved trunk; second, as the one with only one
tusk, third, as the one with black (red/brown) eyes, fourth, as the one with giant structure.

Lambodaram Panchamaam Cha


Shashtam Vikatameva Cha
Saptamam Vighnaraajendram
Dhoomravarnam Tathaashtamam

Fifth, as the one with a big (long) stomach, six, as the one with a huge body Seven, as the
remover of obstacles, eight, as the one with smoke gray color

Navamam Phaalachandram Cha


Dasamam Tu Vinaayakam
Ekaadasam Ganapatim
Dvaadasam Tu Gajaananam

Ninth, as the one with moon on the front of His head, tenth, as the foremost leader, eleventh, as
the leader of the ganas, twelfth as the one with elephant face.

Dvaadasaitaani Naamaani
Trisandhyam Yah Pathernnarah
Na Cha Vighna Bhayam Tasya
Sarva Siddhikaram Prabho

Any person, who remembers these twelve names of Ganesha, three times in a day, will have all
their obstacles and fear removed and will attain success. (This group of verses is said to be sage
Narada's offering to Lord Ganesh.)

Ajam nirvikalpam nirakaramekam
niranamdamanamda madvaitapurnam
param nirgunam nirvishesham niriham
parabrahmarupam ganesham bhajema ||1||

gunatitamanam cidanamdarupam

collyrium of self-knowledge in my eyes, which had got blinded by the cataract of ignorance.

this world, whether animate-inanimate, or movable-immovable.

this world, whether animate-inanimate, or movable-immovable.

Sarva-Shruti shiro-ratna
virajit-padambujah.
Vedantambuja Suryo yah

My Salutations to that reverential teacher, who is like a sun for the blossoming up of the lotus
like mantras of upanishads; and at whose lotus feet lie the beautiful flowers, symbolizing the best
of jewels of vedas.

Chaitanya Shashwatah shanto


vyomatito niranjanah.
Bindunaad kalatitah
tasmai shri Gurave Namah.

My Salutations to that reverential teacher, who is verily the eternal consciousness, which is of
the nature of peace. He transcends space (& time), the concept of zero, the primordial sound and
all parts.

My Salutations to that glorious Gurudev, who is established in Knowledge and Power, who is
adorned with the garland-of -Knowledge and who grants both worldly prosperity and spiritual

Aneka-janma-sampraptah
karma-bandha-vidahine.
Atma-gyan-pradanen

My Salutations to that glorious Gurudev, who is established in Knowledge and Power, who is
adorned with the garland-of -Knowledge and who grants both worldly prosperity and spiritual
liberation.

Shoshanam bhavsindhoshcha
gyapanam saarsampadah.
Guroh-padodakam samyak
tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

Even by the very sipping of the charanamruta (the water with which the feet of guru are washed),
we get blessed by the eternal wealth (of liberating knowledge), and which dries up the endless
ocean of seeking & the subsequent sorrows. My Salutations to the lotus-feet of that glorious
Gurudev.

Na Guror-adhikam tattvam
na Guror-adhikam tapah.
Tattva-gyanat-param nasti
tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

There is no higher truth than the Guru, no higher penance than (service to) the Guru, and there is
nothing higher than Realisation of the Knowledge of the truth imparted by the Guru. My
salutations to such a Gurudev, who is himself that very timeless truth (and who has taken up a
form to bless his disciples like us with real knowledge).

Man-naathah Shri Jagan-nathah


Mat-guru-shri jagad-guruhu.
Mad-atma sarva-bhutatma
tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

My Lord is the Lord of Universe; My teacher is the teacher of the entire universe; and my Self is
the Self of all. My salutations at the lotus-feet of such a Guru, who has revealed such knowledge
to me.
Gurur-adir-anadish-cha
Guruh-param-daivatam.
Guroh-parataram nasti
tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

The Guru is the beginning of the Universe, yet he himself is without a beginning, the Guru is the
highest deity, and there is none higher than the Guru. My reverential salutations at the lotus-feet
of such a Gurudev.

Tvameva mata cha pita tvameva


tvameva bandhushcha sakha tvameva.
Tvameva vidya dravinam tvameva
tvameva sarvam mama-dev-deva.

O God...You alone are my mother, my father, my brother, and my friend. You alone are the
knowledge, my real wealth. You are everything for me. You are my God alone.

Hanuman Shloka:
manojavam maarutatulyavegam
jitendriyam buddhimataam varistham,
vaataatmajam vaanarayuuthamukyam
sriraamaduutam sirasaa namaami

Meaning:I bow my head to Hanumaan, the messenger of Sri Raama,


who travels as fast as the mind and the wind, has won overHis sense organs, is the best among
the intelligent, is theson of the wind god, and is the commander-in-chiefof the army of monkeys
(vaanaras.)

Saraswati Shloka
Sarasvati namastubhyam
varade kaamaroopini
Vidyaarambham karishyaami
siddhir bhavatu me sadaa
Meaning: Oh, Goddess Sarasvati, my humble prostrations unto Thee, who are the fulfiller of all my
wishes. I start my studies with the request that Thou wilt bestow Thy blessings on me.

Yaa kundendu Tushaara-haara-dhavala

Yaa Shubhra-vastraavritaa
Yaa Veena-varadanda manditakara
Yaa Shwetaa Padmaasanaa
Yaa Brahmaachyuta Shankara Prabhritibhihi
Devaihi Sada Vanditaa
Saa maam paatu Saraswatee Bhagavatee
Nih-shesha jaadyaapahaa

Meaning: Goddess Saraswati Is All White Like The Kunda Blossom, The Moon, Snow, And
Pearl. She Is Dressed In Pure White. While Two Of Her Hands Play The Veena, The Two Other
Hands Are Poised To Give Boons, And Award Punishments As Needed. She Is Seated On A
White Lotus. She Is Ever Worshipped By All The Celestials Including Brahma, Vishnu And
Maheshwara. May This Saraswati Remove My Obstacles And Protect Me.

Vishnu Shloka:
Shanta Karam Bhujaga Shayanam
Padmanabham Suresham

Meaning: I adore Vishnu, the embodiment of Peace, who sleeps on the serpent,
Whose naval is the lotus of the Universe
Who is the Lord of the Gods, who is the support of the Universe, Who is in the form of Space
(the Omnipresent)
Whose color resembles that of clouds, Whose body is auspicious
Who is the Lord of Lakshmi, whose eyes are like lotuses
Who is attainable by Yogis through meditation
Who is the destroyer of the fear of birth and death
And who is the One Lord of all the Worlds

Rama Shloka:

Meaning: To Rama, Ramabhadra, Raghunatha(These are different names of Lord Rama), the
Lord, the Consort of Seetha, our salutations to him.

Sahasra Nama Tat Tulyam
Rama Nama Varanane

Meaning : Lord Shiva told this shloka to Parvati I meditate upon Sri Ram as Sri Rama Rama
Rama, the thrice recital of Rama’s name is equal to Recitation of the thousand names of Lord
Vishnu (Vishnu Sahasranama)

Morning Shloka:
Karagre Vasate Lakshmi
Kara Mule Saraswathi
Kara Madhye Tu Govindah
Prabate Kara Darshanam

Meaning: On the tip of your fingers is Goddess Lakshmi; on the base of your fingers is Goddess
Sarasvati; in the middle of your fingers is Lord Govinda. In this manner, look at your palm

Evening Shloka:
Subham Karoti Kalyanam
Arogyam Dhana Sampadah
Shatru Buddhi Vinashaya
Dipa Jyotir Namostute

Meaning: I salute the One who is the lamplight that brings auspiciousness; prosperity, good
health, abundance of wealth, and the destruction of the intellect’s enemy.

Deepajyothi Parabrahma
Deepajyothi Janardhana
Deepo me hara tu paapam
Deepaa Jyothir Namostute

Meaning: I salute the Lord, the sustainer of the creation, in the form of this light. I salute this
light (the Lord), may He destroy afflictions resulting from my omissions and commissions.
Ending Shloka:
Brahmaarpanam Brahma Havir
Brahmagnau Braahmanaa Hutam
Brahmaiva Tena Gantavyam
Brahma Karma Samadhina

Meaning: Any means of offering is Brahman, the oblation is Brahman, the fire in which the
offering is made is Brahman, and the one who offers is Brahman. Such a person who abides in
Brahman indeed gains Brahman

Karacharana Krtam Vak


Kaayajam Karmajam Va
Sravana Nayanajam Va
Maanasam Va Aparaadham
Vihitam Avihitam Va
Sarvame Tat Kshamasva
Jaya Jaya Karunabdhe
Sri Maha Deva Shambo

Meaning: Lord, kindly forgive all the omissions and commissions born of my eyes, ears, mind
and organ of speech, or done by my hands and feet, and the omissions and commissions in the
performance of my duties, wither enjoined or prohibited. Glory to you, Mahadeva, the one who
is the ocean of kindness and the cause of happiness.
Before going to sleep, one ends the day with this prayer. One asks the Lord for forgiveness for
inappropriate actions that one may have knowingly or unknowingly done during the day.

Tvameva Bandhuscha Sakha Tvameva
Tvameva Vidya Dravinam Tvameva
Tvameva Sarvam mama Deva Deva

Meaning: O Supreme Lord (deva-dev, Master of all demigods), You are our mother, father,
brother, and friend. You are the knowledge and You are the only wealth. You are our everything.

Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaha


Sarve Santu Niramayah
Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu
Mas Kaschid Dhuka Bhag Bhavet
Meaning: May all be happy. May all enjoy health and freedom from disease. May all enjoy
prosperity. May none suffer.

Kaayenavaacha Manasendriyerva
Budhyadmanava Prakrite Swabhavat
Karomi Yadyat Sakalam Parasmai
Narayanayeti Samarpayami

Meaning: Unto Lord Narayana, I dedicate all the acts that I perform with my body, speech, mind,
senses and intellect that are born of deliberation and natural tendencies.

Asato Ma Sadgamaya
Tamaso Ma Jyotir gamaya
Mrityorma Amritam gamaya

Meaning: Lead me (by giving knowledge) from the unreal to the real; from darkness (of
ignorance) to the light (of knowledge); from death (sense of limitation) to immortality (limitless
liberation)

OM poornamadah poornamidam
poornaat poornamudachyate
poornasya poornamaadaaya
poornamevaavashishyate
Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi

Meaning: That (God) is infinite; this (world) is whole;


from the infinite the world becomes manifest.

From the infinite, even if the whole is taken away,


what remains again is the infinite.
