Chapter 3

METHODS AND PROCEDURES

This chapter deals with research design, respondents of the study, setting of the

study, research instrument, data gathering procedure and data analysis.

3.1 Research Design

This research used the descriptive method since it aims to describe the fourth year

implementation of Grade-VI Mathematics as perceive by Grade-VI teachers in selected

schools in the municipality of Prosperidad province of Agusan del Sur. Furthermore, this

study used survey questionnaire in gathering data which are related to the perception of

the teachers in the said district on the implementation of K-12 Grade-VI Mathematics

Curriculum.

3.2 Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study were the teachers in selected elementary schools in

the municipality of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur who is handling Grade VI Mathematics

during the school year 2017-2018.

In the selection of respondents, this study utilized the purposive sampling

technique since there were criteria followed by the researchers. One of the criteria was

only those teachers who were handling Grade VI Mathematics in the aforementioned

schools. Other was that the teachers that were included in this study were those teachers

who were

handling the said subject during the school year 2017-2018. Based on the criteria, there

were 15 teachers were chosen as respondents.

3.3 Setting of the Study

The respondents of this study are the Grade 6 teachers in selected schools in the

municipality of Prosperidad province of Agusan del Sur in the school year 2017-2018.

The selected school are as follows; Awa Elementary School, East Prosperidad Central

Elementary School, PNU-CTL, Patin-ay Elementary School, Sta. Irene Elementary

School, Dona Rosario Elementary School and Sta. Maria Elementary School

3.4 Research Instrument

The instrument of this study is a researcher-made survey questionnaire which

was adopted from Ms. Lotis Bantolinao with her permission. This instrument was

validated by the three experts from Philippine Normal University-Mindanao who are also

knowledgeable about K-12 curriculum. There are three parts of the instrument, part I is

the profile of the Grade 6 teachers, part II is the perception of Grade 6 Mathematics

teachers in the rationale of the K-12 Mathematics curriculum in terms of content,

pedagogy, assessment and learning modules. The last part found in part III are the two

open-ended questions regarding the problems encountered by the Grade 6 Mathematics

teachers as well as the propose solutions to the identified problems.

3.5 Data Gathering Procedure not yet done

The researchers will ask permission to the OSASS in PNU-mindanao school

principal of the schools in District 4 of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur to conduct the

research. Afterwards, they will go to the respondents. Thereafter, they will distribute the

survey questionnaire to the respondents for the data gathering purposes. After the

administrations of the survey with the use of the questionnaires, the data that will be

gathered are tallied, tabulated and will be subjected to data analysis and interpretation.
