This module delivers against these [and the other aims stated in the
Programme Specification] because it underpins and provides a context for
the study of accountancy and is important in the context of the examinations
of the professional accountancy bodies.
Course Learning Upon the completion of this module, students should be able to:
Outcomes (CLO) Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental economic
principles, theories and models and demonstrate an ability to analyse
a range of contemporary economic issues and problems through the
application of relevant economic theory.
Demonstrate an understanding of the technical rules and concepts
relating to Corporate & Business Law and demonstrate an ability to
apply knowledge of relevant Business and Corporate Law concepts
to various scenarios.
Express ideas and arguments in writing appropriate for a specific
academic and professional audience and research and reference
source materials consistently and accurately using the Harvard
referencing system.
This module is consistent with this philosophy since it examines the legal,
ethical, competitive and macroeconomic environments within which the
accounting function takes place. It aims to provide an understanding of the
complexity and implications of the external environments within which
organizations operate in order to allow analysis of the opportunities and
constraints that influence strategic choice decisions. This includes both the
competitive behaviour of businesses in the management of their markets and
decisions made by government agencies from both economic and
regulatory perspectives.
Mode of Delivery The module will be delivered using a combination of lectures and seminars,
including individual and group activities. Students will receive a study
programme that will include an outline of the topics covered, the assessment
of the module, and a list of reading and use of other learning materials that
should be undertaken. Students are expected actively to participate in class
exercises and discussion. The teaching and learning strategy seeks to
encourage independent learning.
