ORIENTACIONES
Estimados alumnos, el presente tema
viene a ser un repaso de lo que se dio en
módulos anteriores. Ahora es reforzar lo
aprendido tanto oral como escrito.
Asimismo deberá tener el audio y micrófono
configurado para practicar las cuatro
habilidades del idioma inglés.

REGULAR IRREGULAR
VERBS VERBS
Forming the simple past tense (REGULAR VERBS)
• Para formar el pasado simple de los verbos regulares añadimos -ED
al verbo:
BOIL --- BOILED
FILL --- FILLED
• Cambios a realizar:
– Si acaba en –E: añadir –D
LIVE --- LIVED
DATE --- DATED

– Si acaba en consonante + Y: cambiar la Y a I


TRY --- TRIED
CRY --- CRIED

– Si acaba en –L o –P duplicamos la
consonante:
TRAVEL --- TRAVELLED
WORSHIP --- WORSHIPPED

– Si acaba en una vocal + una consonante


(excepto W o Y): duplicar la consonante
TAP --- TAPPED
COMMIT --- COMMITTED
PAST SIMPLE: affirmative, negative or interrogative

• AFIRMATIVA:
– He painted the wall
– We woke up very early
• NEGATIVA:
– He didn’t paint the wall
– We didn’t wake up very early
• INTERROGATIVA:
– Did he paint the wall?
– Did we wake up very early?
Past Simple – Irregular verbs
Change totally the structure
• I went to europe
• You wrote a letter
• He saw a good film
• She got up late
• My dog ate its food
• They did their homework
• We drank milk
PAST SIMPLE: affirmative, negative or interrogative

• AFIRMATIVA:
– She went to Europe
– We got up very early
• NEGATIVA:
– She didn’t go to Europe
– We didn’t get up very early
• INTERROGATIVA:
– Did She go to Europe?
– Did we get up very early?
The use of the past continuous

We use the past continuous to say that somebody was in the middle of doing
something at a certain time in the past.

Example:
"This time yesterday, I was doing my homework."
We use the past continuous to say that something happened in the middle of
something else:

Example:
"Bob burnt his hand when he was cooking dinner yesterday"
"While I was working in the garden, I hurt my back
PAST CONTINUOUS
To form past continuous we use the simple
past of the verb to be following by the
gerund:
Was / were + verbo con –ING

1.-He was playing soccer

2.-They were studying English


PAST CONTINUOUS: affirmative, negative
or interrogative
• AFIRMATIVA:
– He was painting the wall
– We were waking up very early
• NEGATIVA:
– He wasn’t painting the wall
– We weren’t waking up very early
• INTERROGATIVA:
– Was he painting the wall?
– Were we waking up very early?
RULES
RULE 1:
• A consonant + -e ----------- Drop the –e and ADD –ing
• dance ----------- dancing
• ride ----------- riding
• take ----------- taking

RULE 2
• One vowel + One consonant ----------- Double the consonant and ADD – ing
• cut ----------- cutting
• plan ----------- planning
• run ----------- running
• NOTE: Do not double w,y,and x
• snow --------- snowing
• fix --------- fixing
• pay --------- paying

• Two vowels + One Consonant ---------- ADD –ing ; do not double the consonant
• keep --------- keeping
• read --------- reading

• RULE 4:
• Two consonants -------- ADD –ing ; do not double the consonant
• sing--------- singing
• wash ------ washing

• Fill in the spaces with the correct form of the past continuous.

PARA HABLAR DE UNA ACCIÓN ACABADA EN EXPRESA UNA ACCIÓN LARGA O
UN TIEMPO ANTES DE AHORA EN UN INCOMPLETA EN EL PASADO:
MOMENTO DETERMINADO. "I was going to spend the day at the beach but
John Cabot sailed to America in 1498. I've decided to go on an excursion instead.”

EXPRESIONES DE PASADO SIMPLE: PARA DESCRIBIR UNA ACCIÓN LARGA


frecuencia: often, sometimes, always; INTERRUMPIDA POR OTRA CORTA:
un punto determinado en el tiempo: last week, when I “I was having a beautiful dream when the alarm

PARA DESCRIBIR EL CONTEXTO EN QUE SE

Ejemplos:

Construcciones con el pasado simple y el pasado
continuo juntos
• Se utilizan las conjunciones WHEN, WHILE, AS.
• 1. Una acción breve (Simple Past) interrumpe a una acción larga (Past
Continuous)
– John was watching TV when his friend arrived.
2. Dos acciones largas (Past Continuous) ocurren al
mismo tiempo.
- I was doing the washing up while my brother was
watching TV.
3. Dos acciones cortas (Simple Past) que ocurren una
después de la otra.
- When I heard the explosion, I phoned the police.
