Cause and Conflict: Ideological State Apparatuses

In the “Federalist Paper 10” it is possible to see how ideological state apparatuses work. It is

known that these ideological apparatuses are created to control people, but it is a kind of

control disguised as democracy. The ideological state apparatuses take as a basis the idea of

a society supposedly equalitarian but in which conflicts of interests obviously act in favor of

a specific and determined social faction causing the separation of these social and political

factions. In “Federalist Paper 10” it is possible to see how this ideological state apparatuses

pretend to act in a massive way but using the dominant ideology, it is, in some way a kind of

repression. We can see this in the following paragraph:

The latent causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man; and we see

them everywhere brought into different degrees of activity, according to

the different circumstances of civil society. A zeal for different opinions

concerning religion, concerning government, and many other points, as

well of speculation as of practice; an attachment to different leaders

ambitiously contending for pre-eminence and power; or to persons of other

descriptions whose fortunes have been interesting to the human passions,

have, in turn, divided mankind into parties, inflamed them with mutual

animosity, and rendered them much more disposed to vex and oppress each

other than to co-operate for their common good. (web)

In the previous quote, we were able to see how these papers pretend to set the bases of an

equalitarian society, but not taking into account the sociocultural and political differences,

we can see that it is supposed to create a society in which everyone fits into the standard in

order to have a space worth living in. This king of conception makes heterotopic and utopic

spaces collide in order to create a topic space.

To sum up, I disagree with the papers when they try to establish the idea of the

common good, this supposes that people have to sacrifice their own feelings, ideas and even

wellness in order to bring stability to the common society. This is kind a Freudian idea of

how cultures affect individuals as they are forced to reject or to renounce even their own

identities in order to set the bases of a society. The “Federalist Paper 10” only takes into

account the ideology of white Christian English men, the bases of the American Society is

built over the ideology of those who dominated.
