The m ain purpose of t he N e w M EM Pr o g r a m m i n g Un i t is t o prov ide GI AS


Technicians wit h a sim ple and reliable t ool, capable of program m ing a large
select ion of "Cuore" Cont rol Modules used in dom est ic appliances designed and
produced by t he Candy Group. At present , t he new MEM Program m ing Unit can
be used t o read and program t he Cont rol Modules of t he following ranges of
appliances:

B) GEN ERA L FEA TURES OF TH E " M EM " PROGRA M M I N G UN I T:

The m ost im port ant feat ure of t he new MEM Program m ing Unit , is t he large
st orage capacit y of it s int ernal m em ory , capable of holding ALL t he available
program m ing files for ALL com pat ible dom est ic appliances.

The prev iously available CuoreMast er unit was able t o st ore in it s m em ory only
one program file per t im e. Wit h t he new MEM Program m ing Unit ( once updat ed)
it is possible t o hold ALL PROGRAMMI NG FI LES t hat m ay becom e available.
Updat ing t he new MEM Program m ing Unit is a very sim ple operat ion aft er t he
inst allat ion on a local PC ( Windows) of t he relat ed drivers and sim ple user
int erface.

As wit h t he previous Program m ing Tool, our GI AS Technical Office w ill k eep all
MEM owners inform ed, as soon as new program m ing files becom e available. MEM
owners will also be inform ed v ia e- m ail, when t he updat e of t he MEM Firm ware
becom es necessary, or whenever a new release of t he user int erface soft ware is
available. All MEM updat es will be available for t he download t o t he local PC, from
t he dedicat ed page of t he GI ASTech 2007 web. Next operat ion is t he upload of
t he downloaded dat a from t he PC t o t he MEM Program m ing Unit , t hrough t he
supplied USB cable. This operat ion is m ade easy and fast by t he MEMLoader
soft ware ( as it w ill be described in det ail lat er) .
The new MEM Program m ing Unit is designed t o be powered by 4 1 .5 V o l t
Ba t t e r i es ( A A t y p e ) . The bat t eries can be of bot h disposable and rechargeable
t ype. May we rem ind y ou t hat all rechargeable bat t eries reach full perform ance,
aft er at least 4/ 5 full charge/ discharge cy cles. To guarant ee t he full program m ing
perform ance, t he volt age supplied by t he bat t eries m ust be no lower t han 5
volt s. A lower volt age v alue only guarant ees reading of Cont rol Modules.

Therefore, when program m ing is needed, t he best solut ion is t o feed t he MEM
Program m ing Unit wit h a Un i v e r s a l A C/ D C A d a p t e r ( from 500 m A t o 1 A) . This
t ype of adapt er can be easily found in Depart m ent St ores and/ or Elect ric
Hardware Shops. Th e Un i v e r sa l A d a p t e r d o e s n o t r e ch a r g e t h e b a t t e r i es
but works in t heir place ( bat t eries can be left in place) .

The K e y b o a r d o f t h e n e w M EM Pr o g r a m m i n g Un i t is wat erproof, and easily
readable. I t includes:

1) ON / OFF K e y ( O/ I ) t o swit ch t he MEM ON and OFF. Press it and


release it as soon as t he welcom e screen is displayed, t o power ON. Press and
release as soon as t he Help line st ops scrolling, t o power OFF.

2) Set of A r r o w K e y s, t o browse t he several available Menu opt ions.

3) Set of A l p h a n u m e r i c K e y s , t o input t he appliance's Product Code and


what ever num eric dat a t hat m ay becom e necessary .

4) BLC/ N UM K e y ( Bloc Num ) . The key Card of t he MEM Program m er is


designed t o input alphabet ic font s as well ( m obile t ype t yping) , whenever in it
should becom e necessary.

5) OK K e y , t o confir m all select ions. When carrying out a program m ing


sequence, conform at ion is always requir ed for obvious safet y reasons.

6) ESC K e y , t o ret urn t o t he previous Menu opt ions.

7) B l u e Co l o u r e d D i s p l a y , wit h whit e let t ering at high cont r ast and backlit .

provided by t he MEM, is no longer available as of Firm war e version 3.0 and
next releases.

Wit h t he new Firm ware 3.0, y ou m ust download from t he download page of
Giast ech sit e ( and inst all) t he cust om Firm ware version in t he language of
your choice.

We kindly rem ind y ou t hat for t he inst allat ion of a new version of Firm ware,
you m ust swit ch on t he MEM by holding down t he power but t on ( O/ I ) , unt il
t he screen of t he MEM displays t he inform at ion: " Firm ware Upload Wait ing".

Only at t his point y ou can launch t he updat e process t hrough t he program


Mem Loader.

The new Firm ware 3.0 works correct ly only in conj unct ion wit h t he release of
MEM DB Updat e av ailable for download on t he issue dat e of t he Firm ware
it self. Prev ious v ersions of DB MEM cannot act ivat e t he new feat ures specific
t o t he Firm ware 3.0.

Usually t his phase last s about 10 seconds. I f t he Program m ing should t ake a

wrong Serial ( Product Code) or a wrong Eeprom Code, or t hat m ay be t he

page, to allow the restoration in case of a
serious software malfunction of the MEM
Unit. It may be necessary to update the
Firmware as well, whenever a new
language (or a bug fix) should become
available for the MEM Programming Unit.

F1) Aft er t he inst allat ion of t he " MEM Loader" program and having updat ed t he
relat ed soft ware and Dat abase, is necessary t o inst all on you PC t he MEM
drivers as well, for t he PC t o be able t o recognize t he MEM as a new
peripheral.

To do t his again, load t he MEM CD int o your PC's CD drive, since t he needed
drivers are found on t he sam e CD. Next , connect t he powered OFF MEM t o
t he PC, via t he supplied USB cable ( see t he pict ure - MEM is OFF) :

Power ON t he MEM Unit wit h t he m ain O/ I key. I f t he Windows XP sounds


are act ive ( suggest ed opt ion) , it 's em it t ed t he classic " ding- dong" sound,
t ypical when a new connect ed peripher al is recognized by Windows. Aft er a
m om ent , a " balloon t ool t ip" appears in t he bot t om right of t he screen ( near
t he clock) , say ing: " New Hardware Found - STR71X Virt ual Com Port " .

As soon as t he " balloon t ool t ip" disappears, pops- up on t he PC screen t he


first window of t he " Add Hardware Wizard" procedure of Windows. We'll u se
t his procedure t o inst all t he MEM drivers on our PC.
F2) The first window of t he " Add Hardware Wizard" asks if you want t o connect
t o t he Windows Updat e web sit e, t o search for t he necessary soft ware. Tick
t he box " No, not now" and click " Next > ".

Click t he "Upload" but t on of t he " MEM Loader " window. The dat a t ransfer
from t he local PC t o t he MEM Dat abase begins. First it erases t he MEM flash
m em ory. This m ust be em pt y t o st ore t he new dat a.

Next , t he act ual dat a t ransfer begins. This is confirm ed by t he adv ancem ent
of t he progress bar in t he window of t he MEM Loader. The sam e inform at ion
is given on t he MEM's screen:

H) UPD A TE PROCED URE FOR TH E " M EM " FI RM W A RE:

Updat ing of t he MEM OS ( Firm ware) is only usually necessary when repeat ed
m alfunct ioning of t he MEM occurs, or whenever it is necessary t o updat e it s
Menu or t he Graphic User I nt erface ( GUI ) . Updat ing is perform ed as follows:

Dow nload from t he Ut ilit ies page of t he GI ASTech 2007 web sit e, t he file
nam ed: "a g g i o r n a m e n t o _ f w _ m e m _ g g - m m - a a .z i p " and inst all it on t he
local PC, following t he sam e procedure t hat was used t o updat e t he Dat abase
of t he Cuore Cards ( s e e p a r . E1 2 ) . The file t o be used is nam ed:
" Fi r m W a r e .Fw " and is creat ed by t he Self- Ext ract ing Archive in t he sam e
C: \ > MEM folder, w here was copied t he Dat abase file.

POWER OFF t he MEM unit and connect it t o your PC t hrough t he supplied USB
cable. St art t he MEMLoader program on t he local PC. Click on t he " Firm war e"
but t on of t he MEMLoader program . The " Open" window appears.
Find in t he folder C: \ > MEM t he file " Firm Ware.Fw" and select it . Click on t he
but t on " Open" . The file is loaded by t he MEMLoader and t he window closes.

PREVENT ANY POSSI BLE EEPROM DAMAGE.

Cuore Cards wit h wrong soft ware, or wit h soft ware belonging t o a different
product line. I .e. it 's possible t o program a WM Cuore Card, wit h incom pat ible
soft ware for a different m achine, or DW soft ware. To prevent t his t ype of
error, it 's t herefore im port ant t o:

a) Be t ot ally sure t hat t he Appliance's Product Code is right .


b) Only use t he program s soft ware suggest ed by MEM, t he one specifically
relat ed t o t he dat e of product ion of t he appliance.
c) Only and uniquely use t he Cuore Card suggest ed by MEM, t he one
specifically relat ed t o t he dat e of product ion of t he appliance.

J2 ) ( W A SH I N G M A CH I N ES) : Wit h incorrect operat ion, it 's possible t o program


a WM Cuore Card by MDL, wit h a program s soft war e specifically designed
for a WM Cuore Card by I NVENSYS.
The operat ion m ay seem correct , but once t he wrongly program m ed Cuore
Card is fit t ed ont o t he WM and t he m achine is powered ON, t he error E7 is
im m ediat ely displayed. I N SUCH A CASE, THE ERROR E7 I S NOT
DECLARI NG A MOTOR'S MALFUNCTI ON, BUT I T'S A DI RECT CONSEQUENCE
OF THE WRONG PROGRAMMI NG OPERATI ON.

I NVENSYS, wit h a program s soft ware designed for a WM Cuore Card by

J3 ) ( TUM BLE D RYERS) : At t he present m om ent and unt il furt her not ificat ion,
t he Dryers Cuore Cards by SELCO are wrongly display ing t he errors t hat are
st ored in m em ory. Specifically, t he LAST ERROR in t im e is correct ly
displayed ( in t he t op line of t he screen, bet ween t he ast erisks) , but in t he
sequence t hat follows, all error num bers are wrongly increased of one unit .

Exam ple: The LAST ERROR in t im e t hat 's displayed in t he t op line ( bet ween
ast erisks) in t his exam ple is E2 ( and it 's right , it 's act ually err or E2 ) . The
first error displayed in t he im m ediat ely under sequence is E3 ( wrong = it
act ually should be E2, as it 's displayed in t he first line) . The second
displayed error in t he sequence is E4 ( t his display ing is wrong as well, it
act ually should be displayed t he E3) and so on. The am endm ent of t his
error is due in a short t im e. We'll inform as soon as it 's done.

cor rect ly display , in t he t op first line of t he MEM's screen, t he last logged
