ABOUT THE DAY:


All auditions and interviews will be held at the University of Hartford, Fuller Music Center, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West
Hartford, CT 06117. Please print the attached parking permit, included with this confirmation letter, and properly display it
in your vehicle. Please circle your audition day on the permit.

Please arrive 30 minute s be fore your first sche dule d appointme nt for registration. Registration will take place in the
Bliss Music Room of the Fuller Music Center. Please pay special attention to the information on page 2 of this letter.

ABOUT THE INTERVIEWS for Vocal Pe rformance , Instrume ntal Pe rformance , and Jazz Studie s:
Students completing a vocal audition will be asked to perform a brief sight-singing exercise at the completion of their
prepared voice audition. This may be accomplished with any system you choose (solfege, a neutral syllable, or numbers).
This brief exercise will evaluate your ability to read simple melodic lines unaccompanied and to read basic rhythmic
patterns. You are encouraged to practice these skills prior to the audition. Instrumental Performance and Jazz Studies
applicants will interview with the auditioning committee during the audition time.

ABOUT THE TESTS:


If you require accommodations for testing due to a documented learning disability, please contact The Hartt School' s
admission office at least two weeks prior to your audition date.
DMA and Ph.D. Essay Exams: Music History and Music Theory entrance exams are 60 minutes each, with a break in
between. Exams are given in Allen Music Library or Hillyer Hall (see below).
MUSIC THEORY: The 30-minute written Music Theory test determines course placement. Only BMUS, BSE, BA-
Music, and Undergraduate Diploma applicants will take theory tests on audition days.
MUSIC APTITUDE PROFILE (MAP): The MAP is a recorded test administered only to Music Education applicants.
It takes approximately 45 minutes.

ABOUT THE ROOMS:


All two-digit room numbers, Berkman Recital Hall and rooms beginning with the #1 are on the first floor. Millard
Auditorium, Bliss Music Room and the Hartt Admissions office, as well as rooms beginning with #2, are on the second
floor. Rooms beginning with #3 are on the third floor and those beginning with #4 are on the fourth floor. If you are
scheduled for Wilde Auditorium or Allen Music Library, please meet a guide in Bliss Music Room 5 minutes prior to your
testing time. If you are scheduled for Hillyer Hall, please meet a guide in Bliss Music Room 15 minutes prior to your
testing time.

Graduate Instrumentalists: If you require an accompanist for your audition, you may bring your own or request
a Hartt accompanist. There is a $50 fee for a Hartt accompanist, which includes one 30-minute rehearsal (on the day
of the audition) and the audition. You must notify Admissions at 860.768.4465 or harttadm@hartford.edu at least 3
weeks prior to your audition of your need for a Hartt accompanist and of your repertoire.
