INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
After watching a video and PowerPoint on people who were influential on science students will

break up into group and research one specific person and come up with their own PowerPoint

presentation with 100% accuracy according to a teacher created rubric. They then will complete

a matching activity on the computer individually.

NYS-CCLS / +NYS STANDARDS AND INDICATORS


Standard: I.L1.1 The living environment- Students will understand and apply scientific concepts,
principles, and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment and recognize
the historical development of ideas in science.
Indicator: This will be evident when the students research in class and then share with
their group the information they have found.

ITSE Standard: Standard 4: Students will understand and apply scientific concepts, principles,
and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment and recognize the
historical development of ideas in science.
Indicator: This will be evident when the students complete their PowerPoint presentation
as well as the online matching activity.

MATERIALS
Smart board
Graphic organizer
Google Slides
Books and research tools

MOTIVATION
I will show a PowerPoint presentation with short videos on each scientist. The students will
break up into groups and research one scientist each. They will complete a graphic organizer
with 100% accuracy and create a Google slides PowerPoint. They will also complete a matching
column activity on the computer.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROCEDURES
I will show them a PowerPoint of a few influential people in science
They will then create a PowerPoint as a group and gather information on each scientist
They will have to complete a matching column and be able to determine what person
belongs to what description

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES
Group Discussion: This will be evident when the students are sharing with their group their
finding in their research.
Cooperative Learning: This will be evident when the students are working together on their
assignment and completing the graphic organizer and creating the PowerPoint.
Independent Study: This will be evident when the students complete the graphic organizer on
their particular person. They will be offered extra credit if they go home and bring in more
research about that person.

ADAPTATIONS

Weaker students will be paired up with stronger students


Students with physical disabilities will be given voice to text device
Children that have trouble with time will be given extra time
Students that are vision impaired will be able to move to the front while I show my
presentation
DIFFERENTIATION OF INSTRUCTION

Struggling Students: Struggling students will be given guided notes where the name of the
scientist is in bold and there description will be highlighted. They will also be paired with the
advanced students so they can learn from them.

Average Students: Will be given websites to gather information on the influential people. They
will be responsible for helping the advances students put together a PowerPoint presentation.

Advanced Students: They are expected to research on their own and put together majority of the
PowerPoint. As well as help the struggling students.

ASSESSMENT
Complete a graphic organizer and create a group PowerPoint which includes 5 facts to represent
the person they researched with 100% accuracy according to teacher created rubric. Then
complete a matching column activity where they have to match up the person to the facts given.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
Students will be given an opportunity for extra credit if they go home and research one particular
person they found interesting and present it to the class the next day.

Direct Teacher Intervention


The students, under direct intervention with the teacher, will review each person and what they
found most interesting.

Academic Enrichment: The student will have a chance to earn extra credit if they go home a
further research about one particular person they found interesting.
