What is electricity?

electricity is the flow of electric charges along a path.

----
This flow of electrical charge is referred to as electric current. There are two
types of current, direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). DC is current
that flows in one direction with a constant voltage polarity while AC is current
that changes direction periodically along with its voltage polarity

OHMS Law
The electric current passing through a conductor is directly proportional to the
potential difference across the ends of conductor, if the physical conditions
remains constant.

What is Kirchhoffs law?

Kirchhoffs Law, states that in any closed loop network, the total voltage around
the loop is equal to the sum of all the voltage drops within the same loop which
is also equal to zero. In other words the algebraic sum of all voltages within the
loop must be equal to zero.

What is Faraday's law?

The Faraday's first law states that whenever conductor cuts magnetic lines of force
in magnetic field, then emf is get induced.
or--- A law that states an electric field is induced in any system in which a
magnetic field is changing with time.

electromagnetic theory
The theory that Frame and state the behaviour of chargers, their physical
interactions, and explain nature of their magnetic properties is called as
Electromagnetic theory.

It simply explains the physical interactions of charge when it experiences any kind
of forces. Its application!? Everything!

Things fall down? Gravitation. Electromagnetic theory. Planets revolve. Yes same.
Motors, generators , transformers, Magnets, cars, bikes, toys, everything
electromagnetism..

What are semiconductors?

Basically, its a material whose properties allow its resistance to be manipulated
over a large range by electrical means of control. The actual finished, processed
device with the semiconductor material with its electrical leads is also called
semiconductors.

or-----Conductor that is not completely conductor (conducts the electrons to pass

through it) or an Insulator (completely stop the passage of electrons) . Hence,
it's characteristic or energy gap lies between the two. Therefore, semiconductor
may be define as a substance, usually a solid chemical element or compound, that
can conduct electricity under some conditions but not others, making it a good
medium for the control of electrical current.

What is Transducers?
Transducers are low powered devices that turn one form of energy to other with
negligible loss.

Eg: Piezoelectric Transducers turn mechanical energy (i.e. deformation) into

electrical energy (charge generation) and vice versa.

Electrical Measuring Devices

Ammeter
The SI unit for measuring an electric current is the ampere, which is the flow
ofelectric charge across a surface at the rate of one coulomb per second. Electric
current is measured using a device called an ammeter.

Multimeter---- General purpose instrument measures voltage, current and

resistance (and sometimes other quantities as well)

Ohmmeter Measures the resistance of a component

Voltmeter Measures the potential difference between two points in a circuit.

(Includes: DVM and VTVM)

What are some examples of electrical devices and their uses?

Transformer- Steps up or steps down the voltage at transmission and distribution
level both. But the power transfer remains the same :) great machine

Motor- Uses electrical energy for a mechanical operation. Used in

escalators, elevators, etc. Works on the principal of Electrodynamic induction.

Generator- Vice versa of Motor and same principal of operation

Resistor- A device that opposes the flow of current . Can be used where current
parameters are to be changed

Capacitor - Stores and releases energy in the form of electrostatic field. It

cannot allow sudden change of voltage.

Inductor- Stores energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. It cannot allow

sudden change of current due to practical reasons which you have to understand
yourself

There are many other devices but for them read "George McPherson' s -An
introduction to elwctrical machines "
