To the Honorable Alma Adams

801 E Morehead Street, Suite 150
Charlotte, NC 28202

Dear Representative Adams,

On behalf of women in Charlotte, North Carolina, and even the United States, I am writing
concerning the Pink Tax. The Pink Tax affects women like you and me every day from the items
we buy in stores to the services provided to us. The Pink Tax is important especially now, in this
era of progressive change and efforts for equality, because it charges women more for
items/services that are virtually identical to the ones offered to men.

Annually, the Pink Tax costs women an estimated extra $1351 per year. This gender inequity has
been overlooked in the past, for decades now. It is time now more than ever to see that a change
is made in how women are viewed as consumers. As we work to inform policymakers more
thoroughly on the importance of this issue, we hope to open their eyes to what they can do to
make a difference. Although the Pink Tax Repeal Act was proposed, it has not made it far off of
the drawing board. Other options include looking into the businesses that are raising the prices of
womens products, which creates a competitive market, and endeavoring to make the tariff on
both men and womens imports the same.

I am very hopeful for the financial future of women, with policymakers like yourself on our side.
Women deserve the equality we have so long been denied. Thank you for your time and your
consideration of my concerns.

Sincerely,
Megan Tilley
