Systems of Linear Differential Equations
Example 1: Using Laplace transforms, find the solution to the following
system of equations + = 2 and = 4
given that 0 = 0 = 0 = 0, and 0 = 8.
Solution
Given: + = 2 (DE 1)
= 4 (DE 2)
Initial Conditions:
0 = 0 = 0 = 0 and 0 =8
Required Solution:
() and ()
Adding DE 1 and DE 2 to eliminate (same technique in solving
systems of linear equations) and solve for (),
2 = 2 + 4
