SWBAT understand what a central theme is in both the visual arts and literature (Kira Kira) and how to identify it.

(What)Unit Terminology/Vocabulary - theme,, Frida Kahlo, symbolism
(Why) Understanding of this knowledge will give students a working knowledge of vocabulary, art history, and
art content in order to understand and identify theme.
(How) Students will learn about and utilize the self-portrait of Frida Kahlo titled Thorn Necklace and
Hummingbird and observe the symbolism used inorder to identify the theme of the image in order to make
visual connections theme in the literary work Kira Kira .
