DIFFERENT WAYS TO SAY I LIKE IT!

1. Im really into it: (TO BE INTO + ACTIVITY) I'm into it

When you are interested in an activity or a subject.


I really like doing a particular activity or I'm really interested in a subject

Example:

- Kelly is into yoga these days. Kelly is really into music


- I'm really into James Burn.
- Im really into gardening, but these squirrels keep messing with my tomatoes.

2. Im fond of it: (TO BE FOND OF) (Tener mucho cario durante mucho tiempo)

I like it because... I've liked it for a long time.


This means you have liked something for a long time or may have an emotional
attachment with something.
Example:
- William is very fond of his pet dog.
- I am very fond of strange and surrealistic stories
- I am very fond of them.
- He is fond of this kind of music.
3. Im keen on it: (TO BE KEEN ON + VERB +ING

This just means that youre interested in something and you want to learn
more about it.
Example:
- Little Mary is keen on learning English.
- Neville Chamberlain was very keen on peace!
- So my uncle is very keen on the match.

4.- Im mad about ( ESTOY LOCO POR ALGO O ALGUIEN)

I love doing something and I do it a lot.


Example:
- She and her friends are mad about music.
- Its a real tragedy, I love this woman, Im mad about her.

5. Im crazy/passionate about: (TO BE CRAZY ABOUT) Estoy loco por

This is the same as Im mad about it.


I'm extremely interested in it and I do it a lot = I'm crazy about it
I love doing it and I do it a lot = I'm mad about it

Example:

- Richard is crazy about Rock music.


- Finnish women are crazy about cars. (Las finlandesas)

6. I cant get enough of (NO ME CANSO DE / NUNCA TENGO SUFICIENTE)

This means that I love doing it and I dont want to stop.


How much ever you like something, it isnt enough.
Example:

- Peter cant get enough of his new IPad.


- I can't get enough of this spaghetti.
- No me canso de estos spaguetti.
- I can't get enough of that.
- Nunca tengo suficiente de eso...
7. Iv got a soft spot for: (TENER DEBILIDAD POR ALGO / PUNTO DBIL)

You like someone a little more than other people.

Example:

- My father has got a soft spot for my younger sister.


Mi padre tiene una debilidad por mi hermana menor
- No, dont tell me youve got a soft spot for this guy.
- Unless you've got a soft spot for Susan too.
A no ser que tengas debilidad por Susan tambin.

8. I fancy him/her: (ME GUSTA L/ELLA)

You think someone is attractive/good looking.

Example:

- I mean, she may fancy him, but shed never act on it.
- Racheal fancies Brad Pitt. She finds him extremely good looking.
- You fancy him but he's married.
- I think she fancies him a bit.

9. It appeals to me: (Me gusta / me atrae)

It sounds/ looks great. I like the idea of it.

Example:

- Settling in England appeals to me.


Establecerse en Inglaterra me atrae.
- I don't know much about photography, but it appeals to me.

10. It goes down well: It goes down well (with people) (A otra persona le gusta algo
que haces / me cae bien)

This means that other people like something that you do.

Example:

The presentation went down really well with the board of directors.
And you went down well? / Y te fue todo bien?
11. Its to my liking: (ME GUSTA/ ME ENCANTA)

A very formal way to say I like it.

Example:

- The tea is to my liking. Its perfect.


- The colour of the paint is just to my liking!

12. Im partial to: (siento o tengo debilidad/ soy partidario/

It means that I like to eat or drink something, maybe too much.


You like something a bit too much and it always remains your preference.

Example:

Even though Im on a diet Im partial to a piece of chocolate cake.


I like all the food here, but Im particularly partial to the fried chicken.

13. Im attached to it/you/him/her/them: (TO BE ATTACHED TO / Tengo cario/


estoy atado/ apegado)

I like it a lot, and if I lost it, I would be sad.


You dont want to do without something and youd be sad if you lost it.

Example:

- Im attached to my mobile phone. I always have it with me.


- Giovanna, I admit that Im very attached to you.

14. Im addicted to:

It means that I like it so much that I cant stop doing it.


You like something so much that you cant contain yourself from it (usually used
for negative habits)

Example:

- John is addicted to smoking and cant break it.


- She looks nice enough, but she lies on her taxes and shes addicted to painkillers.
15. Ive grown to like it:

Something you never liked before but have developed a liking for it over a period of time.

Example:

- Ive grown to like eating cauliflower.


- Ive grown to like the music of Radiohead.

16. I am passionate about it.

- This means Im really interested and excited about it.

Example:

- Julia runs the selection committee, and shes very passionate about the
candidates.
- He's very passionate about hiking.
- I was very passionate about the idea of studying Criminology.
