ECE 2503 - Teaching Learning that impact the Preschool
Curriculum
Every child in life deserves the best start to achieve his ambitions and potentials. The

child at an early age learns, explores and invent which affects his future and his life. The early

years foundation stage (EYFS) sets rules and standards for the learning, development, and care

of the children from birth to five years old. It helps children prepared for school, and to provide

children with new skills and knowledge for proper future progress (Statutory Framework,

2017). The EYFS curriculum guides the learning and teaching process and helps children to

establish an optimum learning environment in the classes ("EYFS," 2015). With this approach, I

designed my two lesson plans with different activities to develop children in many areas, such as

communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional

development, literacy, mathematics, and expressive arts and design. In addition, in this paper, I

will write two reflections about how my lesson went and how I used EYFS curriculum.

The first lesson I taught was counting. I teach KG2 students. What went very well is the

activities. I have done different activities to suit all the levels of the students and to be in

different areas. For example, the first picture was for medium-level students. In this activity,

learners develop their mathematics skills and improve their facilities in counting. As well,

children developed their fine motor skills by using the paper clips. According to EYFS approach,

physical development encourages students to be active and interactive in their learning and

support them in understanding the importance of physical activity (Statutory Framework,

2017). Also, which I focused on this lesson is the activities be a reasonably long, so do not loss

student's attention. For example, the high-level students always finished the activities fast, so I

make sure to push them one step up by gives them strenuous activity. The second picture shows

the way how the students did the counting yarn activity and the way how they solve the problem,

as EYFS supports children to experience things.

On the other hand, what not went very well is the classroom rules. I didnt say the

classroom rules at the beginning of the lesson. I just mentioned them when the children

misbehave. So, by this mistake, I lost the students when I explained each activity. So, on the next

lesson, I will say the classroom rules at the beginning of the lesson and model them to children

not forget the rules so, when I model them next time, they will remember what I have said.

My second lesson was in English, sound /o/. Children enjoyed the lesson and the

differentiation of the activities. What went very well is the opening activity. I started the teaching

by singing phonics song and by doing some actions to children interacted with me. This is as

shown in picture number 3. After that, I told them a story because children listen attentively to

stories and they are expecting what will come after. As in EYFS curriculum, this activity will

develop children's communication and language skills (Development Matters, 2012), when

they will listen to the story and pay attention to what will happen next. This is as shown in

picture number 4.

On the other side, what not went well is the transition. I used the bell strategy, and it was

the first time that children used in the class. So, they didn't know the rules of this procedure,

which led the classroom to be chaos and not organized. The big mistake that I did has I used the

strategy without gives the children the instructions. However, on the next lesson, I will say all

the instructions before I used a new strategy to be one of children's routines.

In the end, children will not learn only in the schools and with the teachers but as EYFS

emphasizes that parents are a child's primary educator. I advise, and I encourage all parents to

contribute to their child's learning.
