Name of Article: Introducing Chemical Reactions Concepts in K-6 Through A Hands-On Food
URL: https://0-search-proquest-com.library.uark.edu/docview/1927819742?pq-origsite=summon
Within this article, it talks about how the nation needs more Science, Technology, Engi-
neering and Mathematics (STEM) majors in the country in order for the workforce to be filled in
the upcoming generation. In order to encourage this major, strives have been taken in order for
students to become interested and involved in this field. Because of the lower income neighbor-
hoods/funding as well as students inability to enjoy this field, programs like Rochester Institute
of Technology (RIT) innovate ways for K-6 students in the community to get involved and learn.
Specifically through the program called Beyond 9.8, where a series of workshops were shown in
order to engage the students. The main objectives of this workshop was to show chemical reac-
tions, and consistencies of objects through cost effective materials within a reasonable time span.
16 students were involved in this activity that included creating a hypothesis, conducting an ex-
periment, and writing up a lab report, as well as completing a survey for data. Overall, the work-
shop was a success as students learned basic lab procedures, as well as learning about chemistry

Title of Article: The impact of goal setting on fourth grade writing proficiency
Year: 2012
Within this Theses/Dissertation, it talks about a study that was conducted at Willard
Elementary School in the authors 4th grade classroom, which was known to have children
within the poverty level of society. The author then wrote about how the math scores in the
school had been rising, as well as writing following it. In order for the scores to be met, she
said she began a course for students. She started off with a series of questions, in order to get
feedback from the students she wants to help with improving scores. Following this, she
would help set goals by encouraging students with a positive energy, setting up small groups,
discuss school and life long benefits from setting goals, time management, how they feel
about making their goals or not making their goals, and so on. The theses concluded by
saying that because of this research she had conducted, she hopes to see improvement and
Name of Article: Higher Incidence of Bone Stress Injuries With Increasing Female Athlete Tri-
adRelated Risk Factors
Author: Michelle T. Barrack, PhD, RD*, Jenna C. Gibbs, PhD, Mary Jane De Souza, PhD, Nan-
cy I. Williams, PhD, Jeanne F. Nichols, PhD, Mitchell J. Rauh, PhD, PT, MPH, Aurelia Nattiv,
MD
Journal/Newspaper, etc.: The American Journal of Sports Medicine
One-paragraph summary:
Within this journal, it discusses sports injuries, specifically to females, and the cause of
them due to their anatomical makeup. It talks about how different bone densities in women may
have caused the injuries in the women who got injured. According to the journal, female adoles-
cents and young adults are more likely to become inured from single risk factors, and are even
higher when the female as an athlete, almost doubling the likelihood of injury. Causes of in-
juries could be excess weight bearing, which causes stress on bones, normally located around
the tibia and lower bones. Risks become even higher for athletes that suddenly increase activity,
causing the body to not be able to adjust correctly. Other data was collected as well, and from
running blood work of participants, low iron and calcium levels are also the prominent cause of
injury, as well as not enough recovery time. More data is being conducted for this study and will
show more results on why female athletes tend to have more injuries.
