when my agents brought up the project,
my first thought was that it was just too
close to home. But the more I thought
about it, I imagined that Paul would be
looking down at me, saying Dont be an
idiot, just go out there and do it.
Even so, the shoot was no easy ride.
Amid all the engine oil and chest
thumping, there were tough episodes.
On some days I would feel his
presence there and suddenly Id be on
the verge of tears. There were moments
when I just felt completely overwhelmed
by missing him, so Vin [Diesel] and
Tyrese [Gibson] and I would stop and
share stories about him. The whole
experience mirrored a lot of the themes
that feature in the movie about family,
about going on a journey. It was a
powerful thing and I was honoured to
be a part of it.

crossover, in person Davies
seems significantly more driven
than his screen alter-ego. Its

Davies acting career came
about following a sudden
change of heart. He was doing a
Media Studies degree at RMIT
when he was required to act in
a short film as part of his
production major. That single
cameo ended any thoughts of a
career in journalism. Already two
years into the three-year course,
Davies dropped out to throw
himself into acting. Weirdly, he
insists, it wasnt a tough decision.
When you find something that
you really love it actually makes it
pretty easy, he says. I feel
incredibly lucky.

there wasnt a trace of a smile on
his face. He showed no emotions.
Right away Teddy Atlas took one
look at me and said, Weve got
nobody to box with him. Stewart

said that he was going to box me
and we got in the ring. I was really
good that first round, pressing Mr
Stewart and banging away at him.

over and saw Cus smile for the

he got me with a couple of shots
and my nose started bleeding

dont quit. If we start, we have to
go three rounds. Bobby looked
over at Cus, and he said it was
like watching a movie. Cuss face
turned red and he looked over at
his friends who were there and
everyone was smiling. His whole
face lit up. You ever see a guy who

Well, Cus had no hair but thats
what it reminded me of. His eyes
opened wide and it was like I have
