The video opens with an establishing shot of the band on stage which then cuts to a
medium close up of the singer who introduces the audience to the song (Dont
believe the hype) before they kick off. The camera then cuts to a long shot
revealing the whole band. Action codes are used here showing the performance
which also connotes the performance style of the video and its genre. This links to
Joan Lynchs theory of music video structure.
The director also includes shots of the band from behind. This follows the
conventions of performance music videos of this genre.
Close ups of guitars and tracking shots follow showing the band performing and a
close up of the singer is used as the verse starts. This focuses the audiences
attention on the singer and the lyrics.
The camera then slowly zooms in on the drummer before cutting to a side shot of
the singer and rhythm guitarist before the chorus starts. This connotes the style of
music and underlines the importance of the other band members.
Multiple camera angles are used mainly low angle shots and eye level camera
shots. This depicts the band in positive way and connotes
their relevance and importance.
A lot of track camera movement is used both going forwards and backwards and
going around the side of the stage. This is to present the band from a variety of
angles and make the video more interesting and entertaining to watch.
