Responsible to : Ouseburn Farm Manager

Job Purpose:
1. Under the supervision and direction of the Farm Manager to
ensure the successful management of an urban farm visitor attraction,
which will be open to the general public, taking an active role in all Ouseburn
Farm related activities.
2. Under the supervision and direction of the Farm Manager, ensure
the welfare, management, maintenance and daily care of all livestock
at Ouseburn Farm
3. To work in accordance with the policies, practices and procedures
as laid down by BBHA Board of Management.

Main Duties:
1. Undertake animal welfare and daily care of livestock at Ouseburn Farm, including.
cleaning, feeding, watering and all factors relating to maintenance, breeding and good
health to ensure a clean and healthy environment is maintained and to facilitate the
training of the same for placements at the farm
2. Assist in the selection and purchase of suitable livestock for Ouseburn Farm.
3. Assist with sales of animal produce and keep accurate records of all sales and cash
received ensuring that financial procedures are correctly followed.
4. Undertake and facilitate the security and cleaning of farm buildings including livestock
accommodation, greenhouse, stores and land on the farm to ensure a safe and tidy
environment at all times.
5. Maintain all farm buildings and machinery in a good state of repair to ensure they are
kept in good working order.
6. Assist the manager and the trainee and volunteer coordinator with the preparation of
resources for lessons and helping supervise visitors, volunteers, trainees and children
whilst on the farm ensuring relevant Health and Safety regulations are followed.
7. Ensure adequate safety at the farm for all animals, staff , volunteers, trainees and
visitors complying with all relevant Health & Safety and company policies.
8. To promote social inclusion by raising awareness, sharing information and being
responsive to local and user concerns.
9. To supervise and assist trainees, placements and volunteers make the best use of the
facilities at the Ouseburn Farm and local resources and to ensure that their health and
welfare is not neglected.
10. To work flexibly to ensure that the Ouseburn Farm is appropriately staffed
particularly during hours when it is open to the public.
11. To assist in monitoring and recording of service uptake at Ouseburn Farm.
12. To contribute to education, outreach, training and conservation activities at
Ouseburn Farm
13. To attend Ouseburn Farm team meetings, giving verbal and written reports as and
when required.
14. Other duties consistent with the successful management of Ouseburn Farm as
reasonably directed by the Farm Manager.


Salary Scale From £16,300 to £18,240 pro rata for part time, the post will be
appointed within the scale

Hours of Work 37.5 per week

Annual Leave 26 days

Notice Period Four weeks

All staff are employed subject to the satisfactory completion of a twelve month
probationary period.

Specific terms and conditions will be stated in the Terms and Conditions of Employment

Supervision and direction will be provided by the Area Housing Manager.


Experience of handling livestock
Excellent organisational and communication skills, being able to communicate clearly with
a diverse range of visitors to the project, including trainees, volunteers, members of the
public and other agencies.

Flexible approach to work taking part in a 7 day rota to include spring/summer public

Experience of working in an agricultural setting
Knowledge of relevant legislation related to the keeping of livestock
Working knowledge of health and safety
Experience of working with vulnerable/excluded groups
