Introduction

Great Expectations, novel by Charles Dickens, first published serially in All the Year

Round in 186061 and issued in book form in 1861. The novel was one of its authors greatest

critical and popular successes.

It is considered one of its largest and most sophisticated novels, as well as one of the most

popular, being adapted to theatrical and cinematographic works in more than 250 occasions.

The novel tells the story Phillip Pirrip, an orphaned blacksmith apprentice whose

aspiration will become a noble gentleman, describing his life from his childhood to his maturity.

It can be said that it is a Bildungsroman or learning novel. History can also be considered as a

semi-autobiography of Dickens, like many of his works, in which he mixes his life experiences

with his social environment. The plot of the story takes from the eve of Christmas of 1812, when

the protagonist is only seven years old, until the winter of 1840.

Thesis Statement

In the masterpiece Great Expectations by Charles Dickens many different characters are

mentioned with her owns characteristic for example: "Pip", a boy who after the death of his

parents lives with his sister and his brother-in-law, Pip is sent to the house of Miss Havisham, a

middle-aged woman, to entertain her. There the young Pip meets Estella, who falls madly in love.

Great Expectations, novel by Charles Dickens, first published serially in All the Year

Each publication in the All the Year Round contained two chapters and was written in

such a way as to keep the reader interested from week to week. The novel is set in the Kent

countryside and in London.

Conclution

It is an interesting book, a very beautiful story told of love about Pip towards Estella. A

orphan boy who lost his parents and was only raised by his sister and brother-in-law. Meet Miss

Havisham, a lady with a broken heart.
