Student Body Is Wise
The Free Press is glad to be able today
to announce that the student body of Adkin
High School, Negro institution, has come
to its senses. They went back to classes
|| Monday morning, after a week of more or
jless turmoil, revolt and unfortunate pro-
The Free Pree took the position that
‘| the student body was ill advised, that re-
gardiess of the merit of its claims or griev-
ances, it was pursuing a short sighted
abd suicidal policy and one that was cal-
culated to do serious hurt to continued pro-
gress in affording better facilities.
In connection with the protests of the
Adkin Student Body it should be kept in
mind that the protests were not waged
at the primary function of the school, that
is to educate the boys and girls. -The
school’s scholastic standing “is “accredited
and there is no basis for any connection
| that equal opportunities for education are
not being given the Negro children. The
complaints were for auxiliary facilities
|}such as play grounds, gymnasium, et al.

The Free Press hopes that with the re-
turn to classes the students will appreciate
the advice of those who have their inter-
ests at heart and in spite of some of the
i) advice of those who have sponsored or
encouraged them, they will recognize the}:
‘| importance pf changing their tactics and
*| permitting those who have been champions
of their cause to continue to do so.
They will certainly make greater pro-
