1 Overview

This is a project management plan created for the governmental plastics industry advisory

group, aim at promoting plastic recycling in Australia through a social media campaign. The

objective of this is to excite and educate the public about plastic waste in the country and how

to reduce this. The website and application developed specifically for this campaign will have

geolocation implemented to share the photographs and hashtags instances of plastic wastes

taken by the public with other social media users and how these can be recycled instead of

leaving it as a major environmental problem. This project will include, a project manager,

web/application developers, a PR and marketing team and the governmental advisory group

collaborating with each other to work on:

Developing a strategic plan to promote the cause and creating an enticing phone

application and websites

Numerous meetings and various interactions with each other

Monitoring and Controlling the projects budget

1.1 Background Information

Majority of the plastics in Australia are petroleum based polymers that is a major

environmental issue as it is non-biodegradable and must be recycled through various

processes or else it will remain as plastic wastes in the ecosystems once discarded. Thus a

social campaign is launch to educate the community on what can be recycled in hope of

reducing plastic wastes in Australia.


2 Scope Management

2.1 Scope Definition

The scope of the project management plan accounts for the following aspects:

Providing the social campaign management team with a comprehensive

understanding of what is required to setup and run and effective social campaign.

Create a plan on when things are to be action so that the launch of the campaign can

be as effective and successful as possible. For example. Weekly meetings are

necessary for team members to touch-base on the progress of the project, any

problems that have surface and that deadlines are met by the individuals so that there

are no delays.

Define the resources and responsibilities of each member.

Analyse the Cost and Budget necessary for the launch of the campaign.

Identify the potential problems and conduct a risk assessment

2.2 Goals and Objectives

The goals for the business are:

1. Develop an application/website that is user friendly for the public and a sustainable

reward scheme.

2. Secure advertisements deal with various social platform to promote this campaign

3. Continuous reviews of the social campaign performance are needed.

The key objects of the project are as follows:

Negotiate and secure advertisements deals with social media websites such as

Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube.


Develop an application for Android and IOS users where it links all the hashtags and

share it with other users.

Plan & develop a reward scheme for the social campaign, for example: users collect

points for each time they recycle and these points can be redeemed for small prizes.

Ensure that everything is actioned as schedule so that there will be no inconvenience

to key stakeholders and staffs.

3 Contractual Aspects

3.1 Reporting Requirements and Specific Management Agreement

For the project to run effectively and smoothly, it is vital that all departments report their

developments daily to ensure that everyone is kept up to date with the overall development of

the project, specially the project manager and the team leaders. Below is the managerial

hierarchy and communication plan.

3.2 Customer Supplied Resources

The governmental plastics industry advisory group is the customer asking the company to

develop a project management plan for a social campaign to promote plastic recycling. A

proposal that matches the customers needs is created and presented. If the customer agrees

with the plan then contracts will be negotiated and funding is given to launch the social

campaign.

3.3 Liaison Arrangements

Team leader of each department must report the progress of their team to the project manager

who is responsible for overseeing the project and controlling the budget cost.

3.4 Advisory Committees

The advisory committees will be internal and will include the project manager and key

stakeholders who will define the cost of the project and that a holistic approach is

implemented.

3.5 Project Review Procedures

The project will constantly be reviewed through classroom meetings to see if the objectives

and goals have been actioned as scheduled.

3.6 Technical Deliverables & Schedules

Technical deliverables will constantly be measured through classroom meetings where the

progress of the project is compared against the schedule to determine the team performance.

Unsatisfactory performance reviews can result to the termination of an individual personnel

or external party, these consequences would be negotiated prior signing the contracts.

4.2 Cost of Monitoring & Control Procedures


Cost monitoring and controls are required to ensure that the project stays within the budget

and tasks are completed as scheduled. The earned value management principle and To-

Complete Performance Index (TCPI) are implemented to assures that the performance and

cost of the project are in control.


5 Personnel

Personnel required for this project are a project manager, web/application developers, PR and

marketing team members. A project manager is required for an effective decision-making

process and to ensure that the project remain within the budget scope. Web/application

developers are employed to develop the website and application that will function on both

IOS and Android phones as well as fixing any complications with the application with

constant updates. The PR & Marketing team is employed to finds effective ways to promote

the campaign and constantly develop ideas that will gain new users.

Possible recruitment problems may be finding someone with the required experience to create

a phone application. Due to the job being a small contractual job that probably only requires a

few months, it may not appeal to individuals with the required skill set.

7 Auditing Controls & Project Review

Auditing is conducted by an external body to ensure that the correct review procedures are in

place and what can be done to enhance the review procedures by the standards. The purpose

of the audit controls is to identify any problems that cannot be resolve, validate corrective

actions achievements and to provide progressive reports to the management team. These are

implemented to ensure accurate reporting and validation of progress as well as the quality of

the performance compared as the schedule.
