SMART VIEW/ESSBASE UPDATES
1. Point of View in Row 1
In SmartView when connecting to the newest version of Essbase (11.1.2.3) the Point of View
(POV) will be displayed in row 1 for Ad Hoc reports.

When the POV is selected in the Essbase toolbar, row 1 will be hidden and the POV window will be
displayed. It is important to note that even though row 1 is hidden it is still part of the Grid and the
POV selected members still exist in the row.

If you are used to manually adding the members into the Grid we recommend deleting row 1,
entering the members, and then refreshing the report. Row 1 will automatically be added again
and display the correct information.

You must be careful that you dont have the members listed in both the Grid and the POV; this will
cause an error. In the example below Project Grant is listed in the POV in row 1 and the grid in row
9.

This error can be fixed by removing the duplicate dimension reference:

2. Butterfly Report
You can create an Ad Hoc report where the member names are in the middle of two columns of
data. In the example below you can see the MTD and YTD results with the Account members
between the Balances members.

Typically, Smart View grids are comprised of member names on top rows and columns on the left. Data
cells corresponding to the row and column member cell combinations are displayed in the grid.

An alternative to this approach is to have member names in rows, in the middle of a grid with data on
both sides. This is referred to as a butterfly report:

the same time.

Both will be displayed after selecting refresh

6. Multiple Grids

Multiple grids can be contained on the same worksheet, making it possible to have more than one
Ad Hoc report per sheet.
To start, highlight a range of any size on a blank worksheet, and select Ad hoc analysis on the
database you want to connect to.

A window will open asking if you want to create a sheet that supports multiple grids.

To start a new grid highlight a new range on a worksheet, and select Ad hoc analysis on the data
base you want to connect to.

You will have two grids that you can interact with independently of each other.
