ANALYTICALMETHOD

Optimization Problem:

A manager of public transport operator want to maximize its resources consist of 8

employees who all can drive and allocation of transport operating time by 36 hours. Types
of transport modes that are available are taxis and buses. As a note, for taxi operations
requared 1 employee and 6 hours operating time, while for bus operations required 2
employees and 8 hours of operating time. By a developed system that specified deposit
(setoran) amount per day (P) is determined by correlation with its demand (D).

Ptaxi = 7,5 0,05 Dtaxi and Pbus = 8 0,025 Dbus

If the function of maximum revenue is stated as Z = P1.X1 + P2.X2, how many fleets of
each transport mode to be operated by the transport manager if he wants to maximize its
revenue? (in 105 Rp)

Solution :

1. Determine the objective function of maximum revenue.

Z = P1.X1 + P2.X2

Specified deposit (setoran) amount per day (P) is determined by correlation with its
demand (D) :

Ptaxi = 7,5 0,05 Dtaxi Ptaxi = P1.X1 and Dtaxi = X

Pbus = 8 0,025 Dbus Pbus = P2.X2 and Dbus = Y

The objective function of maximum revenue become:

Z = P1.X1 + P2.X2
Z = (7,5 0,05 Dtaxi) + (8 0,025 Dbus)
Z = (7,5 0,05 X) + (8 0,025 Y)

2. Determine all constrains :

Company fleet consist of 8 employees who all can drive and allocation of transport
operating time by 36 hours.Types of transport modes that are available are taxis and
buses. As a note for taxi operations required 1 employee and 6 hours operating time,
while for bus operations required 2 employees and 8 hours of operating time.
From statement above we can determine the constrains as follow:

Employees constrains:
X + 2Y 8
Time constrains:
6X + 8Y 36

Notes:
X represent the number of taxi
Y represent the number of buses

3. Calculating X and Y :
X + 2Y 8 x4 4X + 8Y = 32
6X + 8Y 36 x1 6X + 8Y = 36 (-)
-2X = -4 X=2

X + 2Y = 8 2 + 2Y = 8

Y=3

As we know from the previous statement mentioned that Specified deposit (setoran)
amount per day (P) is determined by correlation with its demand (D), while company
fleet have the allocation of transport operating time by 36 hours.

Based on this statement, the objective function (Z) for maximum revenue should be
calculated in 24-hours vehicles operation time(taxi and buses) and we should convert
the number of taxi and buses on to 24-hours operation time, as follow:

X = 2 x 24 = 1,333
36

Y = 3 x 24 = 2,000
36

ANALYTICALMETHOD

So we have the number of taxi and buses that operate in 24-hours operation time
below:

Taxi = 1,3333 2 units

Bus = 2 units

4. Calculating the maximum revenue generated by each transport mode to be

operated by the transport manager (per day) in Rp.105

Z = (7,5 0,05 X) + (8 0,025 Y)

= (7,5 0,05 (1,333)) + (8 0,025 (2))
= 7,433 + 7,95
= 15,383 (in Rp.105)

The maximum revenue per day generated by taxi and buses operated by the
transport manager is Rp 1.538.300,-
