Question 1 By Luisa Fernanda Ruiz

Martha slammed the door in Jairos face because She discovered that he steleaded her
money.

According with the information above, write a story, use at least 4 of the 6 sentences:

In the summer vacation Martha and her boyfriend Jairo went to Caribbean, but Martha came
back very sad.

When they got on the train to tour the city, The train crashed because the railroad track is in
disrepair; fortunately there were no injuries. After Martha was talking to with her friend Ben, he
told her about vacations from last year in the Winter, Ben climbed the mountain and he saw as
the snow covered the nature and the beautiful is this.

Martha was thoughtful, she also wanted to enjoy her vacation so she and Jairo decided to go out
for dinner and they see a their friends Raul, Marian and their son celebrating and very happy.
When they talking with them discovered the they were celebrating because Raul read his wifes
diary and discovered that she is very happy in her matrimony so it was a wonderful night.

The next day Martha was very happy and she wanted to run but when she returned she noticed
Jairo very nervous so Martha slammed the door in Jairos face because She discovered that
he steleaded her money.

Finally Martha returned to her house very sad but she forgave Jairo.

Based on text Sallys Problem, write two ideas about what Sally's problem could be:

1. Sally was thinking about the discussion between her parents in the morning hours.

2. Sally thought about the change of city, for the separation of its parents

SALLY'S PROBLEM

Sally sat at the back of the classroom, looking out of the window. She didn't hear what the
teacher said because she was thinking about her big problem.........

Sally jumped up and ran to the phone. She just knew everything was going to be alright again.

After choosing the idea you like best, write about it. Write the story again putting your middle
between the beginning and the end of the story of Sally's problem.

Sally is a ten years old girl, very active and intelligent, she likes to interact in classes, but last
Monday she was sitting at the back of the classroom, looking out of the window. She didn't hear
what the teacher said because she was thinking about her big problem, which happened the night
before where their parents argued strongly because of economic problems. Sally curiosity let
her to approach her parents' room; Sallys father seeing her kept quiet and retired, Sally asked
her mother, with tears in her eyes what was happening? , her mother with the voice even cut
answered, her father had problems at work, but everything will be fine. Sally went to her room
to sleep due to the fact that tomorrow she must study.

It was the first time Sally listened to her parents arguing, that is why she was thinking about how
to help them, because she did not want to hear those screams that frightened her again or
listening her mother to cry, before sleeping, she thanked God, praying her fathers problems
would be solved, because he was the best father and she loved him and she did not want him to
be upset.

The teacher called Sally to go to the principal to answer a call; Sally got up and ran for the
phone. She knew that everything would be okay again and if it was a call from her mother to tell
Sally that her father was promoted and his economic problems would have a solution.

Sally thanked God, and returned to her classroom being the girl that she used to be before.

Nicknames Popular
Nicknames are used to describe people, places or things. Many American cities have nicknames.
They can help create identities, build unity and help people feel a sense of pride in
their community.

Some years ago, marketing and advertising experts were asked to choose the best nickname for
an American City. The winner was the nations biggest city, New York. The nickname they
chose was The Big Apple.

Where did the nickname Big Apple originally come from? In the nineteen seventies, New
York suffered from image problems. The number of visitors was falling. A campaign was
launched to give the city a new image and a new nickname. The New York board chose the
nickname The Big Apple

It was not the first time the nickname had been used to describe the city. A journalist for a New
York newspaper had used the name The Big Apple to describe New York in the nineteen
twenties.

The Big Apple was also the name of a night club in the Harlem area of New York City in the
nineteen thirties, as well as the name of a popular dance and hit song around that time.

The Big Apple is not the only nickname for Americas biggest city. Almost one hundred
nicknames that describe New York have been recorded. Some of the best known nicknames for
New York are The Capital of the World, Empire City, Gotham, The City So Nice They
Named it Twice and The City That Never Sleeps.
