Electrical Engineer

The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites
applications for an Electrical Engineer at the Electrical and I section of the Design and
Engineering Group.

Description of directorate/division

The Engineering and Integration Support Division is the central technical division providing
transversal support and services to the ESS project and organization. The existing division is
divided into 4 groups: Design & Engineering; Integration; PLM & Process Support and Survey,
Alignment & Metrology. The E Division is:

1. A service provider of engineers and designers for the ESS projects for in-house design
activities as well as activities performed by collaborating organizations.

2. Responsible for development and maintenance of the generic design rules, design
processes including accommodation and maintenance of design systems and tools.

3. Responsible for the management of the Product Data Management System, the integrated
CAD-model (ESS Plant Layout) and classification and standardization of e.g. components and
materials.

Job description

Provide technical support to engineers across the ESS organization and support the subprojects
within the Electrical and I field:

1. Taking on the role as electrical engineer or design coordinator in projects.

2. Take out technical specifications for procurement of technical systems, products and
installation packages.

3. Assist in evaluation of technical tenders when procuring technical systems.

4. Review and assist in creation of the design and requirement documents.

5. Support with installation coordination and technical support during the installation
phase of the ESS facility.

6. Support in the elaboration and the implementation of generic rules & guidelines in
the organization.
7. Take part in the development, implementation and maintenance of engineering
processes related to the Electrical and I field.

Qualifications

- Master/Bachelor in electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and


experience.

1. Five years of experience from Electrical Engineering within the industry or


within scientific projects.

2. Experience from plant design within the Electrical and I field e.g. within the
process industry, nuclear power industry, oil and gas industry or similar.

3. Experience from using PLM/PDM, CAD & Engineering tools related to electrical
engineering is beneficial.

4. Experience in work with governing documents such as procedures and


guidelines is beneficial.

5. Excellent oral and written English.

6. Strong problem solving, analytical methods and technical skills.

7. Ability to work effectively in and with team(s).

8. Ability to identify and resolve complex problems/issues and has good


judgement.

Duration & Location


The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be

The European Spallation Source ERIC will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary,
large-scale research infrastructure based on the worlds most powerful neutron source. European
Spallation Source, ESS, will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering
instruments for the study of a large range of materials from polymers and pharmaceuticals to
membranes and molecules. ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by
Sweden and Denmark. ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists
and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full
operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
