Sextuplet Drum Fill Ideas Using Kicks, Flams, and Single Strokes

By Alex Ribchester
Below are a few ideas taken from the video lesson in which we explore some alternative ways of playing sextuplets around the kit.
I have only written out some basic examples that are 4 beats long (1 bar) with some ideas on how to end the lick and find your way
back in to the groove. Once you have internalized the pattern, experiment moving the idea around the kit and extending the fill
to 2 bars or more. Enjoy

Pattern 1. This is the basic pattern played between the snare and the kick. Drop the left hand first for the flam if you are
right handed and vise versa if you are left handed.

Pattern 2. With this pattern, we are replacing the first kick drum with the left hand (5:24)

This fill combines the two ideas, with pattern 2 being played first followed by pattern 1

Here is an example of finishing the fill with a flam on the snare and an open hi hat played as 8th notes. This is a
nice and easy way to round off lick as it gives you a little more time to nail that transition from fill to groove.

With this idea we are switching to single strokes sextuplets for beat 4.
