RodSEBA-Universal Current Meter F I is provided for determination
of current velocities. It is a precision measuring instrument and
therefore, please handle it carefully. Consider all items of the
service instruction.
1. Current Meter Mountings
For different kinds of use suitable guide devices are available.
4.1 On rod 20 mm dia. fixed rigid with direction indicator (Fig. 1).
1.2 On rod 20 nm dia. with relocating device. The movement of the
current meter on the marked rod is actuated by means of the
relocating device. Extension of rod and relocating device
possible with meter sections (Fig. 2).
1.3. On rod 20 mm-dia. with tail plane and fixing-clamp for cable.
Movement of current meter by opening the excentric lever and
shifting the cable. Wire-claps avoid deviation of the cable.
ee Better Yovebins there is an additional cross-plane available
Fig. 3).
1.4 Cable suspended with sinker (torpedos) 5 kgs and 10 kgs with
tail-plane of 1m length. This device is used for measuring
from bridges with winch mounted on a jib (Fig. 4).
1.5. Cable-suspended with sinker (torpedo) 25 kgs, 50 kgs and 100 kgs
with tail-plane.
1.6 With special mounting for control of the efficiency of turbines.
2. Cable connection
Insert plug (F-5) (+) into socket, press it and shift bolt (13)
back.
Put second core (-) into terminal negative (10).
Connect cable to impulse counter. Please consider colours of
plugs and sockets.

Propeller
The propeller consists of fibre-glass laminated Plastic
with metal! winding inset. Shift propeller on spacer (29)
and screw it with taper (25).
Attention: Shift and screw propeller carefully and without
force. (Consider point 4).
Starting and 011 change
The taper of the propeller is filled with SEBA Special oil.
The oi] filling and a capillary seal proctect the hell bearings
against water ingress and dirt. The current meter 4a delivered
without oi] filling. Before starting, oi] must be filled into
the taper If the current meter is not used for a longer period
epoty ‘the hub from oil. Before starting, always check whether
there is oil/in the hub, otherwise refiil the hub as follone
Keep meter body at taper (25),
Propeller (42) shows down-
wards. Move propeller to left
and take it off. Protect ball-
bearings from dirt and dust.
Empty the used of] from the
chamber, check o-ring (67) on
damage, if necessary change
it. Refill new oil up to
approx. 30 mm below propeller
brim,
Shift propeller again on
Spacer (29) rescrew it by
turning to the right.5a
5.2
Contact Transmission
One signal is generated from each
revolution of the propeller by
means of a permanent magnet.
Max. permissible voltage 6 V d.c.
Max. permissible current 0,3 amperes
Presuppose for above dates is an
excellent spark extinguisher in
the receiver instrument. In any
case prefer using SEBA-counters.
Interruption of circuit:
Is the cable damaged ?
Voltage of the battery ?
Dange on cable connection
or plug ?
Defect reed switch ?
Failure in the impulse counter ?
Change of the Reed switch:
Open screw for meter axle approx.
4 windings, then detach meter
body (1) from taper with pro-
peller. Then take reed switch
(35) out of the meter axle.
Check o-ring on damage, if
necessary change it. The assembly
has to be done vice versa.7.2

Ball Bearings
Extremely smooth running ball
bearings of stainless steel are
used. They have to be protected
absolutely against dirt and dust.
For cleaning only use purified
benzin. After cleaning use again
SEBA Special Oil.
Cleaning and Change of Ball Bearings
Remove propeller according to point 4.1
Open knurl nut (30). Push transition -
piece (25) from axle (28). By slightly
knocking on the transition-piece (25)
(held vertically as shown in drawing),
one by one front ball bearing (60) ,spa-
cer (29) and rear ball bearing (60) are
falling down.
Cleaning of ball bearings
Hold ball bearing with pincette and clean
it in benzine. Dry with air and oil again
with special oi] - do not use it without
oil!
Remove rear ball bearing (60), spacer (29)
and front ball bearing (60) into transition
piece (25). Push transition piece (29) with
parts included onto axle (28) and screw up
knurl nut (30) again.
When screwing up propeller (42) please
consider point 4 !

Shortening of the cable (F 5)
If the cable is damaged on the plug ( +/- pole), or if it
has to be shortened go ahead as follows:
Cut off damaged part
of the cable
Insulate cable
according to
drawing and twist
wire together.
Push plug-cap F-5-2
and rubber bushing
over cable. Then
push cable through
plug-holder (F-5-1)
and plug pin (F-5-10)
and solder it to
the wire.
Inset. plug pin into
plug holder, push
rubber bushing down-
wards and rescrew
plug cap.
Damage on - pole
(negative pole)
repair as follows:
Cut off damaged part
of the cable
Insulate cable accor-
ding to drawing and
twist wire together.
Solder wire into
contact shoe (F-5-3)
Push shrink hose
(3 mm dia.) over-
head and shrink it
by means of a soldering
hammer.Determination of Current Velocity.
When using our standard-propeller an individual calibration
is not necessary. With respect to the fact that all standard
propellers are produced of the same mould, a standard cal
bration result is available.
In case an individual calibration should be required despite,
this can be made in a special calibration-channel with meter-
body and propellers concerned.
The current velocity (v) is determined as follows:
vek-n+D
ve velocity cm/sec
be Hydraulic pitch (m),determined in the
calibration-channel
n= nunber of propeller revolutions per second
a= current meter constant
