TWENTY SEVENTH DAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Parishioners,

We have two stories of vineyards today. From

Isaiah, Let me sing to my friend the song of his love for
his vineyard. The story tells us that God cared for his people as a good gardener cares for
his vineyard. It is the story of Gods love for his people, yet they did not respond to his love
only some grapes were produced.

The Gospel story from Jesus is even sadder. Not only did the tenants fail to produce
the harvest, but they thrashed, humiliated and killed the servants of the owner of the
vineyard even his own son! We see the implications of the story. God is the vineyard
owner. Everything is presented to the tenants, the people of Israel in fact ourselves. The
servants are the prophets and Jesus is the son.

We are part of the story. We have been given every good gift by God as a human race.
We are made STEWARDS of all that God has given us. His gifts are given into our safe
keeping we do not own them; we are only caretakers! We need to ask ourselves: Am I a
good steward of all that God has given me?

As a human race, there is a lot to be desired. We kill and thrash one another; we force
6 million out of their homes as refugees; we allow millions to starve; we over use resources;
we pollute the air, land and sea; our actions and life styles do not help the hopes of future
generations. This is the challenge of Pope Francis, Laudato Si the Care of our Common
home we need to heed its contents and try to respond accordingly. This was the attempt
during this creation season, leading up to the Feast of St Francis, who is our example to all
of us to care for the beautiful creation God has given us.

CAFOD: As we respond generously to this collection today, we are in fact helping our
brothers and sisters in need and responding to the Gospel message.

WELCOME to Fr David Ardagh-Walter (retired from Tollington Park), will be helping

out while I am away. Also Mgr. Tom Egan, retired at Wood Green will also help out; many
thanks to both priests. Im looking forward to seeing my nephew and his family and lots of
American cousins.

SCHOOL FORMS FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS can be still sorted while I am away.
Germaine and Sr. Devy have a master plan!

the next session will be on Monday 9th
and 23rd Oct 17 at 7.30pm in the Parish
Hall.

1) Pre- Communion (age 6-7);

from the BLACK FOLDER on the shelf at
the BACK of the CHURCH - fill it in;
attach copies of Birth and Baptism
Certificates of the child and return as
soon as possible to the Parish Office, 4
Vincent Road.

in Downhills Park today,

in solidarity with the poor.
We meet in the churchyard after the
11am Mass.
MARIA GARDELLA RIP
The Funeral Mass for the late Maria
Gardella, RIP will take place here, at St
John Vianney on Thursday 12th October at
10.15am with visiting celebrant,
Fr David Barnes.
Our prayers and sympathies to her family.

overseas on our behalf, helping them to
tackle poverty and injustice.

Following the courses of Bible Timeline,
Mary and Epic: Church History, this course
offers an insight into fundamental truths
of Christian faith through prayer, study of
scripture passages, philosophical and
theological reflection and faith sharing.
Deepen your faith, and share it with
others!
Join us weekly, either on
Tuesdays (7.30-9.00pm) or
Wednesdays (10.00-11.30am) in
Jubilee Hall.

HOUSING A SYRIAN REFUGEE FAMILY.
There will be a meeting this Thursday
12th October from 7pm to 9pm
(probably shorter) in the small hall of
St John Vianney's, West Green Road, for
volunteers for a support group. The group
is required by the Home Office and
Haringey Council in order to sponsor and
provide practical support (e.g. finding a
G.P., schools, language, furniture etc.) for
a refugee family. For more info contact Fr
